How do you help 20 month old teething?

My 20 month old has recently cut 2 molars, one on each side. His sleep has been unsettled sometimes in the evening (crying out, grizzly every hour or so from 7.30-11.30). I should probably know what I'm doing by now but really I don't. His teeth came really late and the initial ones didn't cause much problem.

How do I help him?

paracetamol and ibuprofen before bed, anbesol liquid on gums.

I've never been one to give medication but am open to the idea of starting... But how often would you administer this? How many days on the run? He's been grizzly for the last couple nights, I obviously don't want him to keep suffering!

I give my LO it at bedtime as that's when he seems most upset by it. If he wakes in the night and enough time has passed since any previous dose (8 hours for ibuprofen. 4-6hours for paracetamol). You can get homeopathic sachets, Nelson and Boots do them, they have soothing properties, if you prefer to stay away from conventional medicines.

Paracetamol, ibuprofen, teething gel and ice lollies. DS is a bottle lover so I keep a bottle of cold water in the fridge for during the night to cool his mouth it's horrible to see them in pain :(

If you dont like the idea of medicine why not try the Nelsons Teething Powders, you can get them in Tesco/ Boots etc
little sachets of powder think its herbal ingredients, they are great to calm the LO down
I used these along with Calpol/ Nurofen/ Dentinox gel on dummy ...

WeeTeaJenny those are what I suggested in my post above they have Chamomilla, a homeopathic remedy to soothe.

I found that the teething powders worked well when DD was an infant, but not as a toddler. DD was a terrible teether. I would give ibuprofen before bed (lasts for 6 hours), then have pamol as a back up for during the night.

I was worried about medicating for so many nights in a row and did talk to our GP about it. He wasn't worried as DD clearly needed it and I wasn't giving her pain relief during the day.

I also think the molars are the worst as there is more tooth to come through, they move around before coming through and they are not as sharp as the earlier teeth.
