hi

is it ok to use any cream if i use a disposable liner?

i have some bepanthan but ive never found it to be effective, metanium is much better for us. before i was keeping a separate set of fleece liners (separate from the usual fleece liners in rotation) for when i needed to use metanium but i stopped doing this a while ago because we haven't needed metanium for a while.

Are you worried about staining?

I just used metanium or sudocrem with fleece liners.

mamacoffee · 14/01/2014 17:19

no im worried about the barrier cream affecting the absorpency of the nappy. i'd read about this online

thanks

Ah, I see. I didn't worry about it just on the fleece.

I think it's ok if you use a liner. I sometimes use a bit of cream or sudocrem and don't notice a difference.

Ditsy79 · 14/01/2014 21:08

i've been using bepanthen with paper liners, as I'd heard that creams (especially thick ones like sudocrem) can clog the fleece liners and make the nappies less absorbent.

Hmmm confused now...

I'm pretty sure be pan then is OK when without paper liners though it's the others I'm not sure about

Sorry if I've confused you, mamacoffee - I am probably being a bit cautious using paper liners with Bepanthen. I think I read to use paper liners with all creams on the nappy lady site www.thenappylady.co.uk/nappyconcernsandproblems.html#nappyrashadvice

Thanks for that link, it answers my question about other creams! I know she makes a general statement but I have read on several forums that bepanthenbepanthen is OK with cloth and no one mentioned liners. Just thought it might save you some money!:D

Do you have to use a lot of cream? We use fleece liners and the occasional dab of Sudocrem when DS gets a bit red, but not that much is actually needed and the fleece liners are just for catching poo, so I'm not particularly worried about their absorbency and the pee still seems to run through them. Hasn't affected the nappies themselves either.

mamacoffee · 16/01/2014 21:05

Hi we don't use cream that often but we've needed to use it more recently. Did did lots of her poos though not all on the toilet from 6mo but for about 3 months she's refused to sit down on the toilet Sad her skin is super sensitive (she has v bad discoid eczema).

Anyway for now the matter has been resolved for me. John Lewis have messed up on a washing machine replacement so I have no machine for a week [mad] so it's sposies for a week. I used meyanium for 2 days all the time and the bad rash has cleared now yay!

I'm trying to ensure nappy free time too.

Just wanted to say, reread my post and the initial question sounds a bit miserable! I meant it as a genuine q, as in if you don't need much then you can probably get away with it... Blush

Hope your DD's discoid eczema clears up soon, poor thing Thanks DS goes through bouts requiring canesten/hydrocortisone and slatherings of epaderm, not nice to see them struggle with skin issues of any kind.

mamacoffee · 16/01/2014 22:37

Thanks for your help, I understood what you meant and I never thought of it that way so it was v helpful thank you! Hope your Ds' skin improves too, it's really hard to see them like that Sad
