Can I take my baby with me to the cinema?

I would love to go and see the Mandela film on the weekend, with my husband but my baby is only 4 weeks old so I'm wondering if this is possible. She is breastfed so would be no problem and would probably sleep and feed but is it something people do? Would the volume be an issue?

I've found cinemas really tolerant when dd was tiny. I sat on the side so I could whizz out if I needed but 5 week old do just latched on and stayed there happily all through the film.

Quite a lot of the big cinemas do baby friendly viewings too where the sound is turned down a bit and it's not as dark.

Some cinemas have specific showings that you can take your baby to with reduced sound and some lights, but they are usually independent cinemas or picturehouses rather than your big chains. Check and see. Not able to suggest whether it's a good idea for a usual showing, never tried it!

A couple had their baby at the local cineworld a few months ago, can't remember which film but baby slept right through it. They also do baby screenings of certain films. Check their website.

I used to take mine when they were tiny to parent and baby screenings during the day. But the crying babies and parents up and down in their seats did my head in a bit Wink. Looking back, I wish I had just taken them to the normal screenings when they were that age as they really did just have a big feed then sleep on my lap. As long as you are prepared to leave if your baby is crying or otherwise disturbing others, then go for it. Never found the volume a problem.

So it sounds like a plan then! This is our 3rd DC so a night out is like hens teeth. I will check whether they do screenings for people with young babies thanks everyone.

Fwiw, Odeon and Picturehouse were the cinemas that I went to for the parent and baby screenings.

We did this with DC1 at 6 weeks old - no problem. Tried it with DC2 at 8 weeks old - we were kicked out because it was a 12 film and no one under 12 was allowed in the cinema...

True story.
