12mo DS AKA duracell bunny, normal?

12mo DS is very active. He became mobile quite early, crawling at 7 1/2 months and walking at 10 months.

He turned 1 last week and wants to climb constantly - the stairs, chairs, the sofa, coffee table - if not climbing he is just constantly on the move, emptying boxes or cupboards and pushing things around. He is also very vocal if you take something off him.

3yo DD has always been quite physical, she is in school half days but still needs a 'run' every afternoon - soft play, gymnastics, play ground etc. but DS is at another level.

He's happy, isn't one for crying, eats and sleeps well and seems to take great delight in watching his sister play.

It just worries me I guess that he is so active, silly I know but would love to hear of anyone with a DS who've been like this at 1 but hasn't become totally uncontrollable Confused

It was the climbing that got me - jeez, my son would climb an ice cream as it was melting. He would climb anything. Walking at 9 months, he never stopped moving. Funnily enough, now the problem is he never stops bloody talking! But he is pretty normal (I think)...

v v v active and vocal ds here too now at 2.9y. I decided to treat him like a puppy and take him out twice a day to burn up energy Grin staying at home with him is a nightmare!

Same here. DS has also just turned a year and never stops. He's an expert climber, and when he's not climbing, he's also teeing round the house, emptying things our and exploring. Even in his sleep he circumnavigates the cot several times.

I think it's a positive sign that they're strong, fit and healthy, but yes, it's exhausting!

My DS1 was a young walker and a very active baby too. I remember being at a friend's house who had a play tent, all the other babies were crawling around inside the tent while DS1 was climbing on top of the tent!

He's now a sensible well-behaved sporty 8yo Smile

My DS walked at 10 months so I know how you feel! Nothing was ever good enough, as soon as he could do one thing he was on to the next.

He even turned up early which we joke was because he's too impatient!

Now he's nearly 2 and is into everything, always climbing and on the go, wants to walk everywhere. I swear he thinks he's older than he is!

Thanks to everyone for posting (sorry for taking so long to come back!)

Really reassuring to read and I am starting to embrace having such a live wire. He's just so into everything, it's lovely to watch Grin

My ds is the same! Never stops, climbs, empties everything, opening everything. But he wakes a few times a night, don't think he ever properly switches off

PicnicPie · 15/01/2014 08:48

My DD is 12 months and is exactly the same. I was concerned too as she is always on the go and i dont know any other babies as active as her. She has just emptied her toy basket, turned it over and is on top of it! She uses her ride along to park next to the sofa, and uses it as a step up to the sofa. It's bloody tiring, she's certainly not one for sitting and playing quietly in her play pen but I've got used to it and embrace her cheeky active side. It is lovely and sometime very funny to watch. She does get into a strop however if I get her down from something. She's very determined and string willed.

My friends call him a free spirit :)
