Hi,
I am confused about something. I met with David couple of years ago and slept with him as well. But somehow we broke up. right after broke up, I met James and he was a good guy. I married with him and got pregnant too. After my baby was born, i gave my son his father name as James(whom i married). We were thinking of travelling too. so we made our son's passport as well. Now after two years, David came back in my life. He when saw my baby he said my son has got his features as well. Which means he is his son.
I didn't thought till then that before marrying James i had intercourse with David just a week or two ago.

Now how to confirm whose son is he. Secondly, is it possible to change fathers name on all documents as I want to change it to David.

Please guide me in it.

Before attempting to sort out the paperwork, you need to arrange a DNA test and prove paternity one way or another.

So you still don't know who the father is?

Legally a child born to married parents is the child of the mother's husband, unless proven otherwise.

What state is your marriage in OP?

Dna test before anything else. You're playing with 3 people's lives here. It's not cool!

Am I the only one to think that a lot of people on this thread have been a bit judgemental towards OP.

People make mistakes and unfortunately more often than should a child is involved in these mistakes, as long as we do our best for our children that is all that matters.

Amelia all you need is a DNA and then you will have the answers for your child and that is what is important, not the documents.

Not judgemental, just it seems that the OP has decided her child's father is David based

Not judgemental, just it seems that the OP has decided her child's father is David based on the fact they have similar features!! And is now planning on changing all the legal documents without knowing the truth.

She needs to actually find out for sure who the father is and then go from there.

Get a DNA Test, only need one of the potential fathers to give a sample plus the child.

If the father named on the birth certificate is incorrect then I would get that sorted out - not sure how easy that is to do.

Firstly you need to get DNA testing to confirm. From there you would need to get the birth certificate changed (if necessary). This is not an easy thing to do.
www.gov.uk/correct-birth-registration

You have to have DNA test results to get the father changed on a birth certificate. You will need to contact the general register office with these and they will note in the official records. Any full copies of the birth certificate will show this noted in the margin, short birth certificate will show only the new details.

With regards to the passport and other documents you will need to contact the relevant offices once the birth certificate has been changed.

Also bare in mind that for a child born after 01/12/2003 the father will automatically have parental responsibility. If the father is not your husband then he won't but this other guy will. That could cause another lot of problems. What if he disagrees with you over your child's schooling or medical treatment? What if you die and he gets custody not your husband (who presumably has been bringing your child up).

Also making a false declaration when registering a birth is a criminal offence. If the authorities believe you knew when you registered your son's birth you could be in serious trouble.

This is not a quick easy thing to sort or fix and could have serious consequences.
