take your own calpol and ibruprofen. just easier than buying over there.

take swim nappies as we struggled to buy them overseas
have a plan for the aeroplane. as it was my son just ate cheerios all the way (which meant he ate the store for the whole holiday in about 2 hours)
prepare that it will be like no other holiday you've been on before

have a lovely trip!

Took Dc1 abroad when he was 6 months then again at 1.
Bought a cheap Hauck buggy for £25 in Asda instead of taking main buggy as then it wouldnt matter if it got stained with ice cream/suncream etc during day
Definitely take calpol etc
Took loads of swim nappies ended up not using them as the pools were too cold ( we went low season too), baby just sat in his buggy in the shade or paddled with us
Took our own cotton sheet for the travel cot as the ones provided by hotels /apts can be very starchy /rough IYKWIM
Apart from that enjoy but I must say that dinner times on holiday will never be the same again ...

Prepare tht it is unlikely to be relaxing - babies can't be outdoors in hot weather for very long and you won't be able to sit on beach for more than a brief spell or by the pool because baby will try to crawl towards it

Sorry to he negative but o just warn you to take a lot of toys etc for amusing the baby!

Sorry to highjack but what do you do on holiday in the evenings with a baby? Eat earlyish then just sit in the room? I suppose a good excuse to catch up on books!

Just back from Tenerife holiday with our 4 and a half month old. It was great fun - yes, hard work but also great to spend time together as a family in such a child-friendly place. Our LO was often taken from our arms by friendly waitresses wanting a cuddle! I know yours is older and so will have different needs but we found we could buy everything we needed there, although some was a bit pricier than at home. Happy to give some specific info if helpful. Have fun!

Christelle - get an apartment with a separate living space. So LOs go to sleep early and you get to have a nice meal and relax next door!

Thanks Rhubarb, we haven't booked yet and it's a toss up between Tenerife and Egypt. Was the weather good inTenerife?

Yep, it was lovely. Mid-20s so not boiling but v v pleasant. And blue skies every day. We were able to live in shorts and tshirt, go to the beach, swim in the sea no probs. I really miss it!

I would choose Tenerife, I personally would be worried about the food inegypt for a baby, I have heard a few stories about food poisoning in resorts there. Self catering is the easiest option with kids, they go to bed and you drink wine on the balcony. It is harder if you are all just in one room and have to keep quiet. If your baby is a reasonable sleeper, sleeping in the buggy in the evening allows you to stay out a bit later. Don't worry about routine on holiday just go with the flow.

Get one of those swim rings with a seat built in, when you are in the pool with them your arms get tiered, this way you can pop them and interact with them. We traveled with DD form 9 months and it is lovely. You will get everything you need in Tenerife, including nappies.

Tenerife has lots of lovely promenades which are great for taking your baby for a stroll. We went when DS1 was 10 weeks and had a lovely holiday.
