Baby in a sling

Posting here for some traffic...

I've just started wearing Close Caboo sling yesterday for the first time. DS is 7wo.

He does fall asleep in it, but he cries and tries to wriggle out at first. He calms down after some walking/rocking/bouncing around. He is quite an active baby, hates being swaddled, so I guess he doesn't like being restrained.

I was wondering if anyone also had a baby who didn't quite like the sling at first, but then started to enjoy it? I just don't want to feel like I'm forcing him every time. He's quite clingy baby and wouldn't sleep alone in his crib for longer than 20 mins, so I end up being imprisoned on the sofa all day with him... The sling has changed that, and I don't want to give it up...

First time mum here, so would appreciate your comments.

Thanks Thanks

Hi, my Ds was also reluctant to use the sling, I asked my HV and she suggested using it with him for a short time every day and increasing the time as he got used to it - he really likes it now. Also I try and not use it if he's crying, as I don't want him to associate it with being unhappy but that's probably just me being a bit daft Grin .

I think this is quite common - most babies I know have been a bit like this at first with a sling but quickly grow out of it (though don't be surprised if he has phases again where he doesn't seem to like it!). Once he was toddling, my DS used to grab the sling and shout "up, up!" on a regular basis if he wanted carrying Grin

Needing to walk around, bounce them a bit etc is normal and something you will probably have to keep doing - I think it's the movement that settles them!

DS2 didn't love it straight away. I used a stretchy and he'd be OK if I was moving outside, but inside he'd protest and after a while outside he'd start wriggling too. He also HATED having his head covered, so I'd end up having to support his head with my hand instead of the fabric.

HOWEVER, I've used the sling almost exclusively (I use a woven wrap now, and occasionally a buckle carrier) as opposed to a buggy/pram and DS is 7 months now and positively beams when he sees me putting the sling on.

I'd say stick with it and hopefully you'll see improvement within a couple of weeks. I think it took a few weeks for DS to start accepting the sling more readily and being happy in it. And maybe a couple of months before he stopped crying when I put him in it (I think he just didn't like the being put in and adjusting, once in he was always fine).

DS (12 weeks) screams when I put him in the sling (a Connecta carrier) but falls asleep almost immediately :)

We've got a close too, but DH and I prefer the Connecta.

Thanks ladies, I guess he'll just have to man up Grin
