Am 23+ weeks pg with surprise (welcome!) DC3. I also have a nearly 9 month old DD2 and a three year old DD1. I can no longer carry DD2 in the sling so I have started to use a buggy with her. The problem is that now DD1 has a major tantrum and demands either the buggy or to be carried rather than walk. This means I have felt a bit trapped of late. And of course, I am a parent who is still learning all this stuff. Anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do? Any advice appreciated! Thank you!

Haven't been in your situation but a number of options spring to mind:

  • double buggy for baby and toddler
  • buggy board attachment for toddler
  • other options for toddler eg scooter
  • tell the toddler that she is a big girl not a baby, and should be walking, if not you will have to put her on baby reins so that she walks nicely
  • ignore the tantrum and just carry on walking without toddler (obviously at a safe distance, and remaining in sight Wink )
  • distraction techniques eg trying to spot red cars, yellow flowers, the number 3 as you walk along, or tell her she can run on to the next tree and wait there until you catch up etc
Obviously it will depend on your parenting style, how your DD1 behaves, local circumstances, amount of walking you do as to which of any, of these may work. Good luck Smile

Thank you! Double buggy/buggy board is most obvious I think. We've been thinking of double buggy for walking. Never on public transport though Wink.

Distraction is also a good idea. That is v. useful.
