I expect when you get to about 70, although some of my colleagues regularly have them and they are still in their 40s. I am quite tempted myself today.

I think whenever you feel you might need one. I could definitely do with one right now. (I am 30. If that helps?)

Sorry posted too soon as I'm rocking a baby in my arms and trying to type at the same time!

DD2 is just over a month old and currently does not sleep during the day unless I am out in the buggy or the car. I can get her to relax by letting her suck on my little finger but it never lasts for long after i take my finger out.

I am definitely a person who would love a routine so when do you think it would be good to establish one and any ideas how I try to do it?

I know many people advocate the use of a sling but DD2 just a screams if she goes in it.

She goes down without a problem at the last feed at 10pm and after feeds at night but during the day she totally resists sleep.

i had the same with DD1 and only eventually resolved it at about 5 months by taking her out for a walk in the buggy for hours whenever i wanted her to sleep. I don't think DD1 would be up for hours of walking so I was just wondering what I should be doing!

have you tried a dummy? If she gets comfort from sucking your finger, she might sleep with a dummy?

Can you assemble the buggy in the house and push back and forth until she goes to sleep (maybe with a snooze shade over it to make it all dark and cosy) and then leave her there? I know a few friends who started off with buggy naps like this in the house, then progressed to cot naps when their baby was a few months old.

I know you're not keen on a sling, but my DS used to scream when I put him in, and would only calm down and fall asleep once i started (briskly!) walking somewhere. Although that's probably no good to you if you're not keen on walking everytime she needs a sleep.

other things that worked for my friends included one of those vibrating bouncy chairs? her DS took all his naps in that in the living room until a year old. We were quite lucky with my DS cos he used to nap ok ish in his moses basket in the front room as long as he was swaddled and had his dummy when he was your LO's age. Once he was about 10-12 weeks old we had to put him in his cot in a dark bedroom instead cos he was too easily distracted by everything. he is the same now at 13mo - sleeps well in pitch black bedroom, naps terribly out and about in the world.

Feel your pain...my 16 weeker has never napped for more than 20 mins in the day...

I have tried getting her off to sleep in the buggy in the kitchen but although she will close her eyes as soon as I stop rocking she will wake herself up. Again with DD1 around I can't really spend 2 hours rocking the buggy. Hmm tricky!

If we are out and about she will sleep beautifully though. She would sleep for hours in our local coffee shop or soft play area! Unfortunately, I can't do housework if I'm feeding DD1 cake in a coffee shop while she sleeps!

I'm still hoping someone comes along with a magic solution!

Swaddling/shhhing with dummy in whilst rocking pram ?? I know you dont have all day but swaddling really made big difference to my sleep defying dd!

Dd (also my 2nd) slept really well in a mechanical swing. At about 12 weeks, when the gaviscon kicked in, she settled into a routine where she'd nap upstairs on her own in the quiet. Frowned upon I know but didn't know what else to do as ds would wake her up every time I put her down downstairs.
We also gave her a dummy from about 2-3 weeks old because she too got lots of comfort from sucking.
