6mo hates car in the dark

We rarely take ds out in the car as I don't drive but previously he used to fall asleep but the last few trips have been awful, he has been ok on the way there during daylight but the return journey is terrible. He screams like he is terrified. The first time we stopped to change and feed him but almost as soon as we started driving he was crying/screaming again. Had the same tonight but I sat in the back with him with the light on but it made no difference, he was inconsolable. Can anyone suggest any practical ideas for if we have to travel in the dark ? Thankfully it shouldn't be a regular thing but won't be unavoidable.

My ds has started this as well, but calmed down with the light on and being talked too. We had thought about taking his ikea night lights out with us as they charge. We don't take him out in the dark very often so hoping its just a phase, hope someone will be along with more helpful advice.

My 6 month old is like this too, it's horrible! use a dummy and a little musical toy on his car seat. If dp is drovong I sit in back with him which helps as I can hold his hand/talk to him ..

Hi. DS is nearly 7m and now okay in the dark for short journeys (having been hysterical for about three weeks at 5m when the clocks changed and DD's nursery pick up started to be in the dark) so there is a reasonable chance your DC will grow out of it to some extent. For longer journeys DH has been along to drive and I sat in the back which keeps him happy. Roll on the lighter evenings and reaching 9kg so we can move to forward facing.

(Before anyone weighs in I am quite aware of the stuff on extended rear facing).
