My nearly 8 years old ds will be having his party at home in a couple of weeks. I've hired one of those inflatable gladiator jousting things and thought I'd buy a load of water pistols too. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good games for testosterone filled 8 year old boys??????

Wow! Water pistols and jousting will go down a treat, I'd have thought. For a calming down game how about getting them to draw funny pictures of their head teacher and award prizes? Are they too adult for the traditional things like bumps and statues at 8? Mine were seven last birthday and i was surprised to find they were still up for that sort of thing. Hope it goes well.

Thanks Sminko

Sounds fun. How about also - obstacle courses/ relay type races, Scout/Cub tracking activities, Treasure Hunt, buy some cheap bows and arrows and have an archery contest, french cricket, competition to see how amy things from the garden they can fit in a match box.
Hope that helps!

What about the chocolate game? Plate in middle of circle with a cold bar of Dairy Milk on. Take in turns to throw a dice. If throw a 6, put on gloves, hat and scarf and start eating choc with a knife and fork. Keep going until someone else throws a 6 when they take over.

Hermit · 24/07/2006 22:16

Oh yes - the chocolate one also reminds me of the one where you pick up Smarties by sucking throuhg a straw and have to carry them off to eat.

wink murder is good, one person goes outside and someone is the murderer and has to wink at the others, they then die in a horrific manner (8 year old boys love this bit!) and the other person has to guess who the murderer is

Posey · 24/07/2006 22:20

Oh I remember that one, though I think we called it a different name!
What about Squeak-Piggy-Squeak?

kittywits · 24/07/2006 22:49

Is that when someone is blind folded and sits on someones knee and says "Squeak piggie squeak" and then they have to guess who is squeaking/
Choc game, forgot that, excellent! Keep them coming!!

Why not try a Pinata - they sell them in Asda, it the mexican tradition of filling the donkey with sweets, you blindfold the child, turn them round and they have to hit the donkey, the aim of the game is to smash the doneky so all the sweets fall out.

We just had a Christening party at our house and we got one for the kids attending, we hung it on the washing line, they loved it especially the boys!!!

They dont just do the standard donkey they do a treasure chest, unicorn and a few others

Tie ring doughnuts to the washing line on long strings, the boys have to eat them without using their hands.

Divide the group into two teams. Tie balloons to everyone's ankles. Say "go" and watch the teams trying to burst the other team's balloons. The team with the last balloon wins. As your balloon is burst you withdraw from the game.

Take a length of bubble wrap packaging material (available from any office supply store or garden centre). The length should be around 4-5 feet long. The players take turns walking the length of the bubble wrap. The first one to walk the entire length without popping any bubbles is the winner.

Excellent ideas, thanks

Had another great idea
Boys in pairs, holding a bath towel between them.
2 pairs play at a time. Put a water bomb on the towel, they then through it to the other pair who have to catch it on their towel, then chuck it back. Pass bomb from towel to towel until one pair doesn't catch it and it goes splat next to them and they get wet!
Hope that makes sense. We had it at school fete and it was hugely popular.

Any more ideas anyone?

Jousting bananas. Went down a storm at DS's seventh birthday party.

Hold on, will find the site.

Caligula · 27/07/2006 07:30

Great site, loads of games ideas.

kittywits · 27/07/2006 08:26

Thanks caligula , that's a really good site!

Great isn't it? I just picked about 5 games from it and scheduled them in. In the event we never got round to playing 3 of them, but the 2 I picked (jousting bananas and one of the balloon ones) went down a storm.

They need to be heavily supervised though, otherwise 8 year olds will go mental with them.

kittywits · 27/07/2006 08:39

yep, I have found that 8 year olds are very highly wired!!

Filchymindedvixen · 23/07/2007 18:21

banana jousting! Bloody genius!

I had 6 8-yr-olds back for tea and games after cinema. It was wild. They ended up playing cricket in my hallway

Still, one good idea was I gave them paper tablecloth and a load of felt pens to decorate tablecloth while I was getting food ready. Otherwise, you leave the room for a second and they've all scarpered...
