Just kind of wondered...as ds seems to pick up most things first or second showing but is still very young in terms of p/t. But...my mil...who is brilliant by the way, not usual mil material , said that she paid attention to her kids obvious signs of pooing and immediately whipped their nappy off and sat them on the pot. One of her kids never did a pooey nappy after 6 months!!!! . All 4 kids were totally dry in the day by 18 months and at night by 2. Granted this was 30-40 years ago, but was just wondering if there were any extremely early p/t out there. Absolutely do not want to stress ds about it, but was just curious.

I expect I might have hovered over my kids too in the days of terry nappies and no washing machines!! I can see why this would have been worth it for mums in those days!

Find I have a mental picture of your MIL creeping round after small children like the 'child catcher'!!!!

sorry, no advice on the early training thing, did it with my DS at 2.7 and he took to it immediately, no probs from day one. So obviously I would say do it when ready! much easier to have a life and go out and about than hover about at home looking for facial expressions that might indicate a poo!

i really wouldn't go there! surely pt is all about the CHILD recognising their own early warning signs of need to poo/wee and reacting accordingly. it's not supposed to be about the parents reactions! anyway, unless your 18mo is a linguistic genius, they may not have the communication skills to ask for help getting to the potty in time.

in victorian times, they used to hold tiny babies over a potty. thre's a big difference between holding a child over a potty and a child using a potty independently, with some understanding of whats going on!!

Wait til you feel they're ready. my dd wa 2 1/2, but was so ready we cracked it in 3 days.

wasn't even thinking of trying with ds, as sparklemagic says, better things to do was just curious really. I remember reading when I was pg about some people who never put their babies in nappies right from newborn and teach them to wee/poo almost on command with a shushing noise....or some such similar madness!!! anyway, thanks for your replies. By the way fastasleep, did you get the premium rate one that came pre-weaned on bottles of tea and sausage rolls?
