Toddler Bed Safety Rail - Help needed

Reece · 21/07/2006 21:38

I need to tansfer DS into his toddler bed and I cannot find a safety bed rail that works with his bed.

The problem I have is that the mattress sits down about 1.5" inside the wooden frame of the bed (hope that makes sense).

All the bed rails that I find in the shops are ones that have to go under the mattress.

Can anyone help or am I going to have to do without?

My DS has a metal bedframe and the mattress sort of sits in the base and we could not find anything that would work and so we put floor cushions down next to his bed to atleast break his fall but he never fell out as it happens.

Looks like I will have to do the same if no-one else can help.
Thanks anyway.

Ds2 went into his big bed about 3 months ago and we didnt use a rail nor did we use one withds1.We just put a cushion or folded duvet on the floor and put his bed against the wall.We also used to tuck a pillow under the duvet on the open side to try and prevent any rolling out and i have to say he has never fallen out of bed!HTH

Reece if you really want to use bed rail with your bed you probably can.

Ds' mattress sits down in the wooden frame of his bed (exactly as you're describing), but it's a cheapy mattress so the rail can sort of squidge the mattress a bit and so it fits.

It's the Tomy one. We love it.

We have just put dd2 into her own little bed and i had a one that sits down in the frame as you describe. It's a 'Safety 1st' one and we bought it from B+Q a few years ago.
Decided we wanted another and i couldn't get one anywhere a few days ago so we went for the pine bed gaurd from Mothercare (it's a Mothercare bed so fits fine, it attatches to the outside of the frame).
When i was looking a few days ago though there were a few of what you are looking for online.

We've got the Tomy one too, and our bed is the same - it's a pig to set up, but it's perfectly possible to have it tight enough to "squish" the mattress to make it fit. Can't fold it down, of course, like you're supposed to be able to because of the lip, but it does the job of bedrailing admirably

Thanks everyone. Who needs the Yellow pages eh?
I tried the Tomy one but it just wouldn't fit with our bed.

Will check out Mothercare, B & Q and also online.

I just bought ours from here

here

it fits under the matress and inside the beds side. It just squash the matress slightly and you cant fold it down, but it does the job.

Its a buggar to make the bed with it on though.

Thanks kbaby I went out to get the same one today but no-one has it in stock. Going to try other store tomorrow.

I think the Vikare rail from Ikea would fit well. It's £7.99. HTH

Reece · 25/07/2006 09:19

Thanks scotslass. Unfortunatley we don't have an ikea in this country and when I looked online it wasn't there.

I managed to buy a Safty 1st on yesterday so will have a go and see if it fits. If not I will be back to the drawing board.
