Please tell me your Playdough rules for carpeted houses

What do you do? How Do you keep the stuff off the carpets? We've just got our cleaner to do a thorough clean off the carpet in our living room and a week later it's got loads of little bits stuck in again!! Please tell me where I'm going wrong! Currently I tell the kids (who are toddlers) they have to use it on the table only and not walk around with it and I keep a plastic mat (quite large) under the table.

Please help bc the dcs and their cousins all love it since I made it and it really keeps them entertained in a brilliant learning activity for absolutely ages!

Keep it round at Nanny's house so they have something fun to do while they're there. Works for me :o

You play with it at play groups. Not in your own home.

DS plays with his on a table in the living room. It's on top of a cheap Ikea car rug which gets chucked in the washer when it's grubby.

DD plays with it in the lounge and it doesn't seem to get trodden into the carpet, we just Hoover up the bits every now and then.

Only kitchen table. Strapped in high chair until old enough to understand threat of no playdough ever again if it goes anywhere else.

Never ever ever in a house with carpet. Ever.

Blue playdoh does not ever ever come out of pink carpet. Fact.

Let it dry, then scrape it off with a knife the next day.
Although we do only use it in the kitchen now which has a wooden floor.

Playdough is fun! We never had it as kids, and I couldn't wait to get it for my kids.
One day all my boys will be gone, and my house can be immaculate then.

Sadly we don't have wooden floor anywhere or that would be the perfect solution. Our dining table is in another carpeted room. Thinking about it though that carpet has a much thinner pile than in our living room where they currently play with the Playdough so it would probably still be easier to clean...will also try the knife scraping method to clear the current mess!

When old enough (2.5?) our rule is as soon as ANY drops on the floor however small it's instantly taken away. It's become part of the fun in a weird way!

I havent got any rules for playdoh, glitter or paint I just have dark carpets and it doesnt seem to make much difference.

Mine are far too old for playdough. They now bake. It's like the playdough all over again - but you get something nice at the end!

Make your own, with limited amounts of colouring.

Homemade flour, salt and cream of tartar playdough soaks out of clothes and carpet with warm water. It also doesn't crumble all over the place anything like as much.

I don't DO play dough or glitter. I refuse to have it in the house. After , exactly what you describe. If they want yo do it, do it in someone else's house / school etc.

It stays on the table, crumbs have to be picked up regularly, before they get trodden in. If it's not played with carefully, it goes away again.

It washes out, anyhow. I wouldn't risk it with a pale carpet, though.

Bah Humbug - I love play dough - would never stop kids from using it t save a bit of mess!
