Mine wears the same. Sometimes long sleeve vest if it's really cold. Room temp is 20-22C though.

MoonlitGlitter · 22/12/2013 11:18

Thank you for some reason it seems to be not warm enough but I'm always cold!

It depends on the room temperature. If over 20c then I would go down to a one tog, if it's under 16c then you probably need a blanket.

MoonlitGlitter · 22/12/2013 11:23

18c is that okay?

We use the same moon. Might start using a cellular blanket or two from tonight though.

My DD (21weeks) is in vest, sleepsuit, 2.5tog bag and a blanket. Room is c19c. Hands are still chilly in the middle of the night so I don't think she's overheated.

Littlemisschristmas · 22/12/2013 12:07

I didn't think you should use blanket and gro bag?
Ds is 26 weeks and has long sleeve vest, sleep suit and either gro bag or cellular blanket. He gets too warm in the 2.5 tog bags as our house is pretty warm

Our 4 month old is in a babygrow (no vest) and 2,5tog sleeping bag, room is 16 - 20C he's hands, head and neck are warm during the night. I guess it depends on the baby, how many layers they need.

They have some general guidance here though

my 6month old is in a vest, sleepsuit, 2.5 tog gro bag AND a blanket! We don't have heating so its only 16 degrees in the bedroom.

HandragsNGladbags · 22/12/2013 20:54

That sounds just right to me. If it was under 16 I would put a blanket on top of the grobag.

Also you don't need to worry about cold hands, as long as the body is warm. A cold baby will wake up and tell you about it so try not to worry.

purrforamincepie · 22/12/2013 21:18

There are 3 tog sleeping bags available. You can also put a cardigan over a sleepsuit to keep arms warm.

We got a convector heater from Aldi that clicks on when the temp falls to 16 and goes off when the room reaches 18 degrees, so the room is kept at a moderate temperature. It's on a timer so we set it to go off just before the heating comes on. It didn't cost very much at all and it's been brilliant not fretting about her being cold.

MoonlitGlitter · 22/12/2013 21:28

So do you think a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog is enough? I think I'll start putting a long sleeve vest under from now on, but concerned that the sleeping bag isn't "cosy" or warm enough. He looks so small and list in his cot compared to being all cosy in his Moses with blankets.

Should I switch to blankets?

Dc1 had sleeping bags up until 2 but now it just seems so bare.

He will be warm enough! Just because it is colder outside it doesn't matter if the room is a constant temperature.

BocaDeTrucha · 22/12/2013 22:16

My ds (3 months old) is in a long sleeved vest,, bodysuit and 2.5 tog grobag. His hands are always cold in the night but inside his bag he's toasty and warm. I put a fleecy blanket under the fitted sheet to make it feel a bit cosier.

laughingeyes2013 · 22/12/2013 22:17

I'd also consider how he feels. Is he hot or cold to touch? I'm talking about neck and chest, not ears and hands.

My 6 month old (4 months and 3 weeks adjusted age) is freezing cold in the night, but he has got an infection so I think it's just how he's reacting to that.

But I started a thread as I had put him to bed in a room 20-21 degrees temperature and dressed him in a long sleeved vest, long sleeved sleepsuit, 2.5 tog sleeping bag, and for a short while added a blanket over the top as well.

When I went to feed him in the night a few hours later he was freezing cold and it took me an hour to warm him up against my body in bed with me.

Now I keep taking his temperature to check he's not getting hypothermia! So although it's true hat overheating is dangerous, so it under heating and rah baby is different.
