Now I know why they call it potty TRAINING. We've been going nappy-less (apart from night-time) for three weeks, and DS (3.2) has probably done 4 wees in the potty, and a few in the toilet at nursery (none at home, despite step, toilet seat and bribes!). He's definitely getting more aware - now he can tell me a wee's coming- but getting him to sit on the potty is another story. I've tried various incentives, which does help, but it's uphill work! I always thought he'd get a couple of wees in and be away. Has anyone else found it harder than they expected? Obviously, I'm trying my best to remain cheery and laidback...

Have you tried a sticker chart? My ds was 3 when I started to train him. We just went cold turkey during the day and I would take him every 30 minutes to the toilet. He wouldn't sit on a potty though, so I bought a toilet seat with handles on. Whenever he did something down the toilet I used to cheer and clap loudly and gave him a sticker to put on his chart. After 5 stickers in a row he got a prize (which was usually a new toy!). Once that chart was full, we went to one that he had 10 places to fill before he got a toy. He is now completely dry during the day (apart from when he is playing and leaves it too late and has a little accident!). It wasn't easy at the time as I was 5 months pregnant when we started and yes, we did have rough days. However, summer is the ideal time to start as carpets do dry quicker! I found the more I stressed about it, the more accidents he had. I know it's hard but please persevere. You will get there!

I agree, maybe try going straight to the toilet? I went out with ds and bought him the Comfy trainer seat from Mothercare and he was very positive about his special seat, we bought two one for upstairs one for downstairs, and also I got him some special Kandoo wipes (which are only for poos! as he does a million wees a day) and Kandoo froggy soap just for him and a high step stool for getting on and off the toilet. He is able to turn on the tap himself and wash and dry his hands, I just help him get the soap out. He seems positive and motivated by this and has been trying hard to co-operate, most wees are ending up in the toilet although he often does a little bit first, although poos he has found more difficult as he's not able to hold them at ALL, but the important thing is I know he is trying his best. I have been trying really hard to be positive too and not get cross with the accidents - not easy when you're 7 months pregnant and big as a house!

As my ds is almost 3 I think playing on his desire to be grown-up and independent is motivating him at the moment. Could all change though, we're only on week one!!!
