I'm training to be a proper chef ( as opposes to very good cook who got lucky).
part time just one morning and one afternoon/evening at the local tech. I bought my uniform and knives today and I am VERY excited

Anyone else doing similar?

No, but I will be Tech college in Sept, doing an Access course in Nursing.

hoxtonchick · 20/07/2006 12:47

how cool suzy! are you going to teach them about brownies?!

suzywong · 20/07/2006 12:48

Oh hello you two

I had to get big boots and all, with non slip soles

Are you NDP, it's exciting isn't it?

That's so exciting. Have you got checked trousers? and a hat? x

NomDePlume · 20/07/2006 12:53

I'm pretty excited, but a bit nervous tbh. The thoght of college with all those fresh faced 17 year olds fills me with shuddering dread, if I'm 100% honest.

How long's your course, Suzy ?

suzywong · 20/07/2006 12:54

Yes I do!
I may have to put some darts in the chef's coat as it isn't a very flattering fit, and I have gone for a brimless cap rather than a big floppy hat, but I have to have a kerchief.

Atm my main worry is how rough and old I will look at 8am on Tuesday morning amongst all the young uns.

snap SW....

suzywong · 20/07/2006 12:55

My course is a leisurely one, I can stretch it out over 18 months and a lot of the modules will be teaching me to suck eggs (SNORT) but I want to know how the Aussies do things. I anticipate working a bit at Xmas and then working part time fully when ds2 goes to Kindergarten in 2008.
How about you?

2 years, one day a week in college. It's good because it'll be DD's first 2 years in school , so it means I'll still be able to pick her up from school 4 times a week. If I was doing the course full time I'd be at college 'til 5pm+ 4 days a week.

Once I've done this foundation course, I'll follow it up with a 4 year long degree course. Long term plan !

suzywong · 23/07/2006 14:04

That IS a long term plan, good for you

I have to get my knives marked with my name and then I 'm getting my eyelashes dyed. Well not sure which way round I'll do it but it means I will arrive with the equivalent of my name-tags sewed on and I won't look like a ghoul and frighten the young people of an early morning.

Anyone else doing part time?

I was the most Elderly Female there. I am nearly old enough to be everyone else's mother, bar 5 people and then I could have popped 2 of them out if I'd got my skates on a couple of years earlier.
