Help, have started potty training but he's holding everything...

Ds is 2yrs 4mnths old and is showing all the signs of being ready to potty train. He tells me when he is going in his nappy and what he is doing, he tells me when his nappy needs changing and he has started to remove his nappy in the night. However, we decided to go cold turkey 2 days ago and in that time we have had 2 accidents (both after 6.30pm when he has been without a nappy for over 3 hours) and nothing else. He has been nappyless from 8am till 1pm and then from 3pm till 7.15pm and in all that time he has done 2 wees'.
Obviously he has the bladder control for potty training, but he doesn't seem to be able to go to the toilet on the potty. He is quite happy to sit on the potty but just doesn't seem to be able to let go. Any suggestions? TIA

Mine did this for about three days, he splatted in a really disgusting way whenever his nappy went back on! And he was nappilies for naps too - I could see his stomach was all swollen! Poor love..

we're on day five now and he's finally beginning to think it's ok to do poos in the toilet... try to make it as fun as possible... have you tried a toilet seat and letting him flush when he does a poo! Wow! Or bribing him with sultanas (mine loves sultanas..)

maybe your DS will take a few days and get there himself don't give in if you and he know that he's ready!

Potty training is stressful... I feel your pain!

nappyless* even

then again if potty training is upsetting him a lot it is ok to go back to nappies

mine started demanding to wee like mummy (he's 2.5) although this is our third attempt now..

We're doing stickers for wees, but had to up the ante to 2 shiny coins for a poo.
Are you sure it is being held in though? ds1 did, for example, 7 wees one day and only 2 the next, but I know he wasn't holding out, thats just how much wee he had.

He's drinking load's at the mo cause of the heat and his nappies are so full after his sleep. He's getting little stars for sitting on his potty and big stars for doing something but he hasn't done anything. He takes himself off into a little corner when he can't hold it anymore. Am a bit worried that he isn't mentally ready to take this step.

He might have potty fear...

Cod has theories on this...

Have you tried a toilet seat on the loo? If that freaks him out leave him for a bit, it's stressy isn't it!

Very stressy. He won't go on the toilet at all at the mo, he used to, but I think someone looking after him forced him on when I was at work and since then he gets wound up with the toilet.
Put a nappy on him this morning as I'm worried he'll give himself an infection holding it in all this time. Think I'll start again monday with him. Thanks for all your help.
