Aaaaargh - heavy night wetter!

My 6 month old DS has had a series of colds over the past few weeks that means he wakes up almost every hour during the night for food and comfort. To cope with the stuffy nose, he is also sleeping on his side.

Unfortunately, DS could compete in the Olympics for wee production. The additional feeds, plus the side lying, is overwhelming the cloth nappies I am using. As a result, I am normally up at 4am, changing the nightclothes and bedding. No one is getting much sleep and we are all really fed up with the situation.

I have tried;
Little lambs
Motherease
Sandys
Mother knows (probably the best result as it only got as far as the sleepsuit).

For wraps I have tried motherease and thirsties. I have added up to 3 boosters inside and out the nappy, including cotton, microfiber and hemp. Hemp had the best result, but I am still breaking that set of boosters in and they may need a few more wash sessions before they reach full absorbency.

All suggestions welcome!

Can't you just change him when he's up for a feed?

DontCallMeDaughter · 16/12/2013 15:05

We used reusable nappies for my DD but I could never find anything that worked for her overnight... so she's in a Pampers.

Contact The Nappy Lady for advice, she's brilliant and came pretty close to fixing our overnight issues but as DD got older she started to complain about the sheer bulk of the nappy so Pampers it is.

Hi rockchick

I am already doing that for his late night feed at 11am. The problem is that it wakes him up fully and usually takes me another 30 mins to get him down. Doing it for every feed would have me up throughout the night. At present he's in an arms length cot, so I can roll over and cuddle him/dunk a nipple in mouth for the smaller wakings.

Best combination I have found for my Olympic weeing toddlers:
Tots bots bamboozle stretch with a little lambs booster that is supposed to go in a pocket nappy. (It's bamboo and you fold it into 3, they are £4 on the nappy lady if that helps you find them) I use this combo for both my 15 month and 2.5 year old with either little lambs or blueberry coverall. I also have a mamma knows but don't find them as good.

Oh and meant to say we never have leaks with this unless daddy tucks a nightie inside the wrap :-P

bevbennett100 · 16/12/2013 15:11

I've never had a problem with the pampers baby-dry overnight - they seem to last the 12 hours they promise on the packaging.

I know you are trying to use recyclable nappies, but if its making you all miserable and disrupting your baby's sleep, they might be worth considering....

We used Bamboozles for DS at night and they were a lot better than normal (I need to find someone that wants them too - pm me if interested)

clairikins · 16/12/2013 17:47

Don't bother with microfibre. Go for bamboo or hemp boosters

FoofFighter · 18/12/2013 16:42

You can wrap boosters around the sides too on the outside of the nappy and in the wrap. Ditch the MF, it's like a songe and will leak when laid on for a long time, use your hemp instead of washing it, and investigate wool or fleece wraps
