I recently had an MRI scan on my knee and had my follow up appointment yesterday. I have a tear in the back of my knee which needs surgery to correct.

I have my pre op in jan and op soonish after that. Cons said I could be out of action for 3 months.

DS is 1 in a week.

I won't be able to drive to get him to nursery. I'll struggle the days I'm at home alone with him and DH doesn't get back in time at night to pick him up from nursery.

The only option I can see is to refuse the surgery until DS is older and hope it doesn't get worse.

Any thoughts appreciated.

What about a childminder who lives near you. Any family that can take a weeks annual leave and come and stay ??

Trouble with leaving it is there won't be a good time for a couple of years. And an unstable knee can be a risk for worsening injury as well as the pain you're in. Plus, leaving it longer your muscles may weaken from lack of use making rehab more difficult.

DS is 3.6 and it would be hellish now too.

I'd crack on and bite the bullet.

I'm guessing posterior cruciate reconstruction? In which case 3 m may be optimistic (sorry). So definitely look into options. Childminder who will collect? Would one of the nursery team be able to collect for an extra fee? Nanny/au pair out of the question? Advertise for mothers help to do the nursery run for you?

Good luck.

I just don't think we could realistically afford any more days at nursery to be honest.

It's my lateral meniscus I've torn.

I don't have anyone close by to help - my dad died when I was little, my mum died earlier this year, my bro and sis work full time and both parents were only children so no aunts or uncles about.

When he says 'limited for 3 months' does anyone have any idea of just what 'limited' means? I know I won't be able to drive...
