I use an Angelcare monitor for my 2.4 yr old. I now have a new baby and need a monitor.

Any recommendations?

I'd swap the current monitor from the toddler to the baby (At 2.4yr they don't need angel care) and just buy a cheap listen only monitor for the toddler.

Also loved the angel care with my first, loved it. When second came I bought the cheapest one I could find (20pound, tomy) I used this with the older Ds, 2 at the time, as he was capable of shouting, calling me so sound clarity didn't need to be as sensitive. Used the angel care with the baby.

Worked for us x

You don't need any monitor for a two year old.

Just use the one you have for the baby.

To be fair join i think it depends. I used a monitor for DS until he was in a bed (at 2yo) and could get out and find me if he woke and was upset. We have thick walls and i genuinely wouldn't hear him (yes, even full volume) if i was downstairs.

I agree with above posters though, just get a v v cheap one for your dc1.

Try the Baby Monitor 3G app. If you have a smart phone and a tablet, both with cameras, you don't need a monitor.

I use a Summer video monitor for my Ds who is 5 , Don't flame me .
He has AS/ADHD .

It only cost me £35 from Tesco in the sales .
Its changed my life though as I used to be up & down stairs every 2 mins checking on him , so I was disturbing him , much better now I don't have to

Cheap 2 way one to act as an intercom for the 2 year old. We still need one for our 3.5 year old as he's 2 and a half floors away (townhouse), so ignore judgypants join

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 07/12/2013 20:57

Agree with those saying put the Angelcare in for the newborn.

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 07/12/2013 20:58

Mind I have no idea what an angel care monitor is, we have a small flat so dont need a monitor.

stillhopefulforanother · 07/12/2013 21:08

Only thing is my DC1 uses the nightlight with the Angelcare, so bit reluctant to remove from his room. Also I'm hard of hearing so need a monitor for him as would not hear him otherwise. I can see the lights you see.

Anyone know if Angelcare can b used with two babies / children?

Good point skiing mine has the two way feature and love it!

daughterofafarmer · 07/12/2013 21:37

To be far we are still using a monitor with our 2.9yr as we have fire doors as you can't hear anything when doors are shut. However we'll move it when new DC arrives.

Take your DC shopping and pick a new night light. We have a brilliant owl one which always turns green when it times to get up.

WillSingForCake · 07/12/2013 23:28

Differing brands of monitor can cause interference, so you can get buzzing etc. We have an Angelcare monitor for our 2.5 year old (big house, can't hear her otherwise) but don't use the sensor mat anymore. For DC2 due in April we're going to use the existing Angelcare with sensor mat, and for toddler have bought an Angelcare parent unit & listening bit from eBay (ie everything except another sensor mat).

On Angelcare website it says they shouldn't interfere with each other if you have two, but to keep the parent units at least a metre apart.

Hi Cake,

This is what I am interested in. Could you explain how this works please and what I need to buy? The Angelcare website is a bit confusing.

Thanks so much

Have a look at this website which sells spare parts for Angelcare monitors. If you buy just a Parent Unit and a Nursery Unit from them, then you've got a whole new monitor for the toddler to use (assuming the new baby has now got your old one). This is better than buying a whole new Angelcare set from a shop, as they only sell them with a sensor mat included, so will be pricey.

It's also worth keeping an eye on eBay as I bought a second-hand Parent Unit from there for a lot less than the site I've linked to above sells them for.

You can of course buy a cheap basic monitor of any brand, but it may well interfere with your existing one, and you'll get buzzy noises. Maybe if one of your friends has one you could borrow it to see if it will work alongside your one?

I'm not being a judgypants, I was just trying to be helpful.

I had no idea people used a monitor for a child that old except out of habit.
