She did not sleep very well last night or today at all. She seems to be coughing and is sneezing lots today. Today is the first time a sneeze has produced anything from her nostrils. Her cough sounds a bit like she is choking/ has a slight wheeze.

We all have a cold/chest infection at home and I'm worried she has caught it from us. She was crying inconsolably from 5:50 this evening and I didn't realise she was too hot until I realised I was too hot.

I've taken her upstairs to our bedroom and she is currently enjoying some nappy free time and I have put the ceiling fan on. The room temp is now down to 19.3 and the gro-egg is happy, as is my DD despite the occasional cough and sneeze.

Any advice would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

TIA

Sitting in a warm, steamy bathroom might help, especially if you have some Karvol in the water or something. If you are breastfeeding, letting her suckle helps to clear their nose, too. And try not to panic - easier said than done!

Has she got a temperature? Use an underarm thermometer. The threshold for a fever for babies is quite low so you might need to see OOH.

Keep an eye on her breathing, if she sounds wheezy or rattley seek medical advice as small babies can get bronchiolitis very easily and it can make them deteriorate quickly.

If her breathing is making her chest pull under her ribs or she appears to start struggling to breathe then A&E.

It seems obvious but DD2 had a cold at about the same age which became bronchiolitis and the quick deterioration was scary.

Hi all,

Even as I was writing the post she was improving. I skipped her bath this evening and gave her her bottle 15 mins early instead. She is currently fast asleep in my arms happy as Larry.

She isn't bunged up at all, just sneezing and a bit of what looked like snot came out. I noticed her shoulder was wet, so I think she vomited, but breathed a bit in and was coughing that up.

Am prepared to sit up all night next to her if she gets bad again though, just to make sure.

Bless her. Glad she's feeling a bit better, keep an eye on her temperature though

I was told that 36.6-37.3 was fine, temperature wise. If it were me, I'd call the GP for advice, just to be on the safe side. My 14 week old son is very sneezy but that's partly because sneezing and coughing are all they can do at that age to relieve their noses and throats - they don't know how to blow or clear them.

Is she too young for a dash of calpol?
