When will I be less pinned to the sofa (with baby)?

I have a 10 week old daughter. At first the opportunity to sit and breastfeed and watch TV and read was lovely. Now, arse groove in sofa firmly in place and back aching from sitting in same position I'd like thoughts on when does this get a bit less intense? Also she tends to fall asleep on cushions (feed in rugby hold) so I sit there longer. But doesn't tend to sleep during day easily...

I know this is easy compared to when she'll be crawling etc but just wondering.

Should add I do have a couple if slings but have to get the right moment to get her in them so still often sofa bound at this point!

Totally baby dependent. DS wouldn't be put down for more than a few minutes until he was able to crawl. He was a boob monster too and fed pretty much all the time for maybe 5 months ish? I had he luxury of him being my first though.

DD was either going to be bf quickly or I'd have had to move to ff. When you have an active toddler there is no sitting around! Fortunately she did feed quickly but also wanted to be cuddled a lot and spent most of her first 4-5 months in a sling. She'll now at 7m nap in the buggy or cot but this is recent.

Just keep trying to put her down, even if its only for a minute to begin with, you'll get there in the end. Seriously, get some more box sets and enjoy the sofa I'm seriously jealous and would live to sit down for even 5 minutes in a day

Thanks Barberry! Yes, I'm sure if I have another I'll look back wistfully. I just feel a bit pinned down and back achey. DD does go in her bouncy chair for quite a while so maybe I'm luckier than I thought. I think she is like your DS - a boob monster (hadn't heard that term before! Grin) she feeds slowly and frequently, and it's that that feels so long winded.

I'll take your advice and ask for some box sets for Xmas. Xmas Wink

You dont have to feel you will look back wistfully, my dc1 was like yours and i dont miss those days! I used to stare at the lounge carpet for so long i got a mania for hoovering the carpet, and i hate cleaning. Just proof it sent me a bit doo lally.
Imho it all gets more entertaining at around 4-6 months.

Boobybeau · 03/12/2013 18:19

Oh you really will miss these days, I do. It will pass so quickly, obviously every baby is different so there isn't an official time when you become more mobile again but I seem to remeber it was between 3-4 mths so not long to go for you. This was when I really started to enjoy my dc. After this age I found they needed stimulating a lot more and were starting to be on the move so no more sofa cuddles Sad

I have sofa baby. He's 8 mo and never naps anywhere other than in my arms.
Most of the time it is nice to just sit there and cuddle but a pain in the arse (sometimes literally) if you need a wee or the tv remote is at the other side of the room!!

Rollermum · 04/12/2013 12:11

Thanks all for the different perspectives. I guess the chance to sit down will be missed but when it's so much and with no choice I get a bit stressed.

Booby good to know it gets more interesting! I expect I'll miss the cuddles though.

Peppa yes! I'm obsessed with sorting the lounge because I'm just looking at it all the time.

IfAtFirst Aw, sofa baby Grin. Yes remote across the room is terrible. I am considering tying a long string to it and the sofa so I can drag it back. I was trapped watching Jeremy Kyle the other day.

Ahh this seems so long ago... now my DS is 12 weeks and wants to be exploring, but as he can't do that himself yet I'm forever walking around with him or generally trying to entertain him somehow! I don't think I've sat on the sofa for more than ten minutes at a time all week except when giving him a bottle every 3 hours or so. Enjoy it while it lasts - the next stage is much more fun, but exhausting!

My current foster baby is permanently glued to my lap at 6 months old. I think I have watched everything on Netflix. It's hard when you have stuff to do, but I try to resign myself to it and just relax. Dh lives whipping the baby and remote control from me when he gets in.
