Has your two year old got a scooter?

DS about to turn 2. I'm thinking scooter for his birthday but DH and DM think he's too young still

Has you 2 year old got a scooter? Can they handle it ok? I mean can 2 year olds have fun with them (I presume corners and stopping will be tricky to begin with) or are they way off - for 3+ years perhaps?

My 18m old has the mini micro scooter with the seat (seat part is vital) and it's his favourite toy at the moment. he sits on it and scoots everywhere. he cant steer it but it doesnt stop him he just goes in a straight line, then stops. stands up a bit and turns it with brute force, then carries on.

My DD had a scooter for her second birthday (twist and roll), she loves it although she had a bit of difficultly scooting at first she picked it up really quickly and is fab on it now.

Ds has had one since about 20 months old. He loves it and scoots around the village on it. He turned 2 a month ago.

My dd managed a mini micro very competently when she was 2.

Dd uses her older sister's mini micro scooter. She hasn't really got the hang of steering it yet, but she quite likes it for short periods. But I wouldn't have bought one for her now if she didn't have one already, I would have left it until 3. She isn't the most physical child, though.

Thanks everyone. This is enough to go ahead. Can't wait now. And scooters are functional Smile

We also got a mini micro for DS for his 2nd birthday, he's not great at it yet but he loves trying!

DD2 got one last Christmas, she had turned 2 in the October.

I'm planning to get dd2 a mini micro for her 2nd birthday in Jan. She's interested in dd1's scooter but it's a two wheeler so she hasn't got a hope!

Have you bought it yet? If not there's a code to get £20 off if you buy it through jojo Maman bebe. Look on the promotional codes board.

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 01/12/2013 20:15

Yep, DD had one for her 2nd birthday. She's pretty useful on it now.

DS got a 2 wheel one at about 3.5 and he was fine on it. At 2 I think you'd need a 3 wheel - worth looking for one with two wheels at the front rather than two at the back because otherwise they get in the way. Plus depending on how good your 2 year old is at listening to instructions, especially when giddily excited, it might not be worth it for speeding up walking out and about just yet.

Or as another suggestion, 2 is plenty old enough for a balance bike if that's something you'd be interested in.

Ragusa · 01/12/2013 20:34

DS had one at 2 and was great on it from get go, despite not having walked 'till 19 months. Dd had one from 3 and took her a wee while to get hang of it. It completrly depends on the child.

I would seriously contemplate getting a scooter 'leash' thing if using on busy psvements or near roads. Speed + no sense of danger is not a good combo Wink

Me2Me2 · 01/12/2013 23:33

Good advice. DS certainly not a child who looks back to see if Im there or listen to instructions. Silly me to think it might help us get around quicker!

Thanks for code tip theyoni

You'll get around quicker, oh yes... possibly quicker than you would like Grin
