weighing your child

What actually happens if you don't take your baby/toddler to be weighed by the HV clinic? Its not me BTW, someone I know can't be bothered. She's just told me her dd has seen a paediatrician for something else and they've told her that her dd is overweight but she is adamant dd is not. I'm staying out of the argument but I just wonder why I bother to get my 2 weighed when advised cos its a PITA, and would gladly cut down the visits if it was just a nice to do not a need to do.

As for her dd she is a bit chubby if she mentions what the Dr said again, Im going to remain neutral is that wywd?

Nothing happens. It's entirely optional. I didn't go after about 5 months, apart from the specific developmental check ups eg at 12 months. I don't see that there is a need as I am not concerned about my ds's weight. If I was then I would go.

If your friend doesn't want to use the HV weighing service then that's entirely her choice. You could stop going too!

Completely optional if you attend to get a baby/ child weighed.
There isn't any surveillance by HV's as to how often a child attends clinic.
It is advisable if there is a concern but not a necessity. Seeing a HV is in itself optional. They are there if needed but will offer the routine universal contacts, up to you yo opt out if you wish.
Things change slightly if there is a safeguarding concern but on the whole not a compulsory service.

DS hasn't been weighed since he got signed off by the midwife - he's now 10 months Shock Might as well wait till his 12 month check now! (he's obviously dc2 Grin )
