The walk of shame home from nursery

Is killing me.
My Dts -3, are so much hard work on the way home from nursery.

They roll around on the floor and refuse to get up, hold on to poles and refuse to walk, they fight on the street over who presses buttons on the pedestrian green man thingy, they refuse to hold my hand to cross a road, then fight each other over which of my hands they want to hold.

It's less than a miles walk and they usually walk really nicely, I know it's probably tiredness and have tried taking a buggy instead, but they just beat each other up in the buggy, they even took their wellies off and hit each other over the head with them.

They do fight like a lot of other siblings do, but at home and out and about they are pretty good, discipline works and they usually listen when given a warning. The walk home is something else.
What can I do ?
Tia.

Backpacks with reins? As a threat if nothing else.
And food that keeps them going for ages - sadly ds never liked raisins.

I had ds and dn in a double buggy a lot round that age - and a bag on the back that would acquire their boots, toys, hats...

I am not too sure if I could cope with them both on scooters Glue, I shudder just thinking about them on wheels on the way home. They are not very good at scooting, if we go to the park I end up carrying the scooters while they run around.
We do have little life back packs, stopped using them because they got so good at walking Confused

Have a carrot to dangle. Like 'mummy has a treat at home for anyone who is very good on the walk home'

Before you leave to go anywhere you have to lay out the rules. Simple and age appropriate. Get them to repet them back to you and to agree to abide by them.

I there a park, woodland, duck pond, playground nearby you could make a detour to so they can let off steam but also to use as a reward for good behaviour?

Also distract by asking them lots if questions about their day getting them to talk loads.

Dont threaten the reins - reins are GREAT! Make them desirable and the kids will fight to get theirs on first! Esp if they are the backpack ones.

Ok I have packed lollipops, bananas and a cereal bar and have got games planned. We are going to walk a different way too, which is quieter - hopefully less of an audience to play up to.
Wish me luck, thanks for all your help.
I am actually a little bit nervous and really need to get a grip. I can't let them smell my fear Grin

Hey mine is 4 this weekend and is now a model citizen. He was a total nightmare until about three and a half. Hard with twins! I am learning to drive too.

Trade in the double for something like the joovy caboose so they have no access to eachother?

AryaofhouseSnark · 28/11/2013 13:56

I am back, what a turn around. Snacks worked as did the games.
We stopped at traffic lights and waited for the green light then raced the cars, we blew at the turbines to make them spin, we collected leaves to decorate the reward charts we will use for them being such good boys.
It sounds silly but I feel so relieved, the walk home is such a small thing but I was starting to dread it.
We are all cuddled up watching Mr Tumble, feel a lot less stressed and worn out than yesterday.
Flowers to everyone for all your suggestions.
Working its nice to hear it might get a bit easier as they get older Smile

Oh wow, that sounds amazing, well done you!! Often it's our own attitude that changes a situation. Good luck, you sound such a fun Mama! :-) xx
