How much do you feed your 7month?

My dd (I think) has loads

7am 6oz bottle - porridge with banana
11am. Half 7+ months jar with puréed fruit -
Topped up with milk 3/4 oz
2-2.30 pm half 7+ month jar with fruit topped up
With milk 3/4oz
4pm. Porridge with banana and milk

6.30. 6oz bottle

12pm. 6oz bottle.

She is not yet sleeping through and she had a bottle at 4.30 tried putting dummy back in as that normally works but she was hungry and drained it!

She acts like she is starving and grabs bottle like a maniac and is panting as she is drinking.

She was on 91 persentile for weight and length and still is or there about .

Am I under feeding her?

Well I'm no expert, but I'd say that if she's hungry, then you are not feeding her enough!!
Perhaps if you gave her more in the evening, she'd be less hungry at night.

Sounds like she's hungry, or at least thirsty.

Have you tried giving sips of water with meals and after naps? Especially as so much of her milk seems to come in cooked form. (At this age you would usually need a valveless cup, or to take out the valve, and she won't take loads but it'll be a start).

With food, is she getting much protein? There are jars with meat or otherwise it's actually very easy to prepare some at home, and good for introducing more texture.

Otherwise it sounds like she is hungry, but I know there are limits on how much formula a baby should take in and I'm no expert on bottle feeding, so will leave that to someone else!

We were topping her up at 9pm following the sleep whisper but she was only having a sip.

I feed her her food till she stops eating / turns her head so I don't think I can get any more in her.

The jars I've been getting do have meat in them pork casserole ect....

I'm going to offer water in sippy cup and make my own food see if that makes a difference

my 6 month old is having 7.5 oz bottles at each feed but might well be having less food than your DD.

His day is:

7.30 - bottle
8.30 - breakfast (usually porridge)
11.30 - bottle
12.30 - lunch (pureed veggies atm)
3.30 - bottle
7.00 - bottle
10.30 - bottle

have you thought about increasing the amount of milk in the evening bottles? or maybe you could introduce some snacks in the day?

Sounds like my DS 7 months - hungry boy who until last night had a night feed. I've been keeping him topped up through the day so he drops the night feed first:

6am ish 210ml bottle
8.30 1 weetabix, maybe toast / banana
10.30 210ml bottle
12ish Hipp jar with protein plus some actual protein - fish, chicken, hard boiled egg etc, maybe yoghurt
2.30 210ml bottle
5 - tea v similar to lunch
6.30pm 210ml bottle and bed

Been giving him a jar to fill him up plus finger foods to fast track him to feeding himself. Fingers crossed we get through another night without a bottle!

humphryscorner · 26/11/2013 22:26

Thanks for replying !

When I tried snacks she didn't eat a full meal and seemed to be snacking all day which I ended up losing track in what she'd actually eaten.

I'm going to stop bring lazy and make her home made stuff - see if that makes a difference .

I was just going to say try homemade when I saw your last post OP. I think a lot of the jars have less actual calorific content than an actual mashed banana or blended chicken and pasta. I know they pad the good stuff out with other things - there was a thread on here a while back about it. I would try giving finger foods and homemade stuff for a few days and see if you notice a difference. At that age DCs are old enough to cope with ready brek or porridge made with full fat cows milk and this is quite good to give in the evening to help them sleep through.

Have you thought about BLW? That's a good way of regulating their intake as they control how much they eat and will stop when full.

WallaceWindsock · 26/11/2013 22:36

Also try more carbs. Toast is great as they suck it and eat it really easily even with no teeth. Bread often gets stuck but toast seems to just dissolve! Carbs are slow burning and good for growth and development. I read somewhere that children actually need a carb heavy diet whereas most people tend to push proteins and fruit or veg. Mashed potato may be worth a try? Soft pasta shapes as finger foods?

Maybe try more in her bottle, unless you feel she is satisfied at the end? I have a very hungry boy who has been drinking 8oz bottles since he was four months. He doesn't always finish them but often does, and he is a bottle grabber too!

cloggal · 27/11/2013 12:44

Sorry, just realised she may be cutting back on milk through weaning...

Remembermyname · 27/11/2013 12:54

I would say it sounds like she is hungry and go with it. My dd is 7 months next week and currently has following BUT she has a bad cold and is teething so I'm abut concerned she's not getting enough milk

7am - 3 fl oz
8am ready break and banana made up with formula
10.30/11am - I offer milk but she rarely takes any
12pm - 5fl oz bottle
1.30pm - baby rice/fruit or avocado on toast
3.30pm - 3fl oz bottle
6pm - offer a bottle but usually refused
7pm - dinner - I had been offering puréed veg/finger food, but as her milk intake hasn't been great it's been more ready Brek and banana
8.30pm - 4fl oz bottle

Tbh she's never been a great feeder, but us on the 50th centile no hardly wasting away..,
