11m milk feeds & nights

DS is 11m

He still wakes in the night for a feed and the time varies considerably. He drinks 6oz consistently.

For the last 3 nights he was woken twice for milk....

9oz and bed at 7 as normal
Awake at 11 and drank 6oz
Awake at 3 and drank 6oz
Awake for the day at 7.30/8 for the day

He's only just starting to choose food over milk so I give breakfast when he gets up as he refuses milk in the morning.

Today I have him 6oz in the afternoon to see if the extra calories would help stop him waking for the 11pm one but didn't work.

So today he's had

3am - 6oz
2pm - 6oz
7pm - 9oz
11pm - 5oz

Anyone any idea whats made him start wanting a second feed overnight?

Growth spurt? Needing more calories? Do you give him a supper with his milk before bed? If not you could perhaps try it? It might fill him enough to help him last longer?

Yes, what's he eating solids-wise?

Kafri · 22/11/2013 10:57

well, he;s been really hard work when it comes to solids.

He's at nursery on Mon, Tue and Wed and the nursery staff say he is improving but at home I struggle to get him to eat things.

Yesterday, for example

8am - 1xweetabix
10am - fruit puree (tried pieces of fruit first but won't touch unless its banana)
12md - mozzarella and tomato pasta bake (ate about the quantity of half a 10m jar - which is pretty average for the quantity I can get him to eat), fromage frais, biscotti
2pm - 6oz milk, small amount of banana, few 'puffits' (ellas kitchen things)
4.30 - spag bol (similar quantity to lunch & lumpy pureed), from age frais, offered rice pudding but ply had 3 tspn
6.20 - offered some breakfast bar (one of the only 'chunks' things he'll eat - but only wanted tiny amount)
7pm - 9oz

11pm - 6oz
3am - 6 oz
awake again at 4am

I cannot get him to eat 'dry chunks' for love nor money - nursery say he's eaten jam sandwiches/dairylea sandwiches etc but not at home - he picks up and puts to mouth but then immediately spits out again.

Can you bung him full of porridge before bedtime? After waking 3 times a night the last 5 nights after doing this dd has slept through up to 12 hours. I feel amazing after being a zombie for a year.

If he'll eat weetabix on a morning, will he have it in the evening too? Or porridge perhaps? Something carb-rich that'll fill him and make him tired for bed? Not sure what else to suggest.
My dd was weaned on puree and wouldn't entertain lumpy stuff. The hv said to just give her things she could pick up and eat and to just let her get on with it. It did work; she now eats everything quite happily. If your ds is really struggling to get interested in solid food, could you get help from your hv or gp?
I wonder if the peer effect is helping at nursery: seeing his friends eating their dinners happily might be making him more willing to try it for himself?
