Is she fat

My 12 yr old DD is 5 foot 8 and weighs 9.5 stone. She never eats breakfast even though I make it for her and if she does eat she will eat 1 piece of toast, for lunch she will have a salad. I do offer her packed lunch/ school dinner but she only likes to have tuna salad for lunch. I am just wondering if this is a healthy weight for my DD or is she over weight.
Thanks in advance

Mintyy

By 'ignorant' I mean't you were ignorant of what constitutes overweight for a 12 year old. By 'lot of harm' I mean't by agreeing she was fat this could lead to the op putting her (NHS defined healthy weight) dd on a diet, destroying her body image, destroying her body by dieting. ie a lot of harm.

I 'fuckingdare(ed)' to express my opinion because this is an internet forum for doing precisely that

My dhs family carry weight at the belly, could she have the body shape of a relative? She will be the shApe she is, as long as she eats well and is fit, I shouldn't worry about appearance but rather help her to accept the shape she has.

I think the sit ups might not be doing what she wants them to. Pilates might be a better way for her to work on her core - if that is what she wants to do.

She doesn't look fat but she isn't skinny. She sometime come home crying saying the girls at school/netball call her fat. She look at the daily mail link earlier and found it very helpful. No more sit-ups and she only runs to school because she has to. We live 30 mins away from school and her school starts at eight and I can't take her so she walks/ runs with friends.

My dsd bulked up around her tummy before growing into herself if you see what I mean.

Much better to encourage your daughter in the old people come in all shapes and sizes and bitchy girls will pick on ANYTHING they think they can get a rise out of.

Like a PP said, pilates for core strength might be better than situps which can easily be done wrong and encourage even a little abdominal fat to sit on top of muscle and look like much more than it is.

I am 5'8" and currently nearly three stone heavier than your DD. I not overweight so don't see how she can possibly be even allowing for different body composition between 12 and 36! I was that height at 12 and about the same weight she is now AFAIR and was most definitely not overweight then.

I think some different exercise (if she really wants) and encouragement to ignore the awful girls at school are all that's needed. Apart from maybe eating a bit more Grin.

Oops - should say nearly two stone heavier not three - I.e. at the top end of the healthy range for this height.

absentmindeddooooodles · 21/11/2013 12:57

Im 5.9" and a healthy weight for me is about 9st8.

She sounds pretty spot on!

I know alot of women who are heavier at that height and still look perfectly in proportion and healthy.

Depends on the build aswell I guess but thats no way ovrweight.

Def not overweight, I'm 5"7 and a half and weigh 8stone 4oz and that is very low for my height they recommend I should be at least 9, but I have always been very slim with long limbs and I'm healthy, your dd is tall for her age, as tall as a adult so you would expect her weight to mirror that
