What would you recommend for getting rid of nits on a sensitive sore, itchy scalp??

Hi, My daughter has patches of pink, sore itchy scalp and this morning, I found 2 live head lice. She is 8 years old with very thick hair, that she hates having brushed.
What would you recommend as a treatment?
Thanks in advance. Smile

Get some very cheap but thick conditioner (used Wilkos in the past and worked well) and use LOADS on you dd's hair and I mean loads, hair should be virtually swimming in the stuff. Leave on for 20 mins if poss then just gently and slowly comb through with a proper nit comb (sticking a film on and doing it over a towel and with a bowl of water for rinsing the comb is good if she doesn't like the brushing - and to relieve the boredom for you!). Then wash and repeat at least every other day (well, evening is easiest) for at least a week. Then braid/ponytail her hair for school, doesn't guarantee she won't get them again but makes it easier to avoid getting them.

Oh and go through everyone in the family with the (clean) nit comb at least once to avoid re-infection - I didn't the first time dd got them and found the beggars in my hair a few days later, bleuch.

Thank you, that's brilliant. Smile

Usual conditioner and a nitty gritty comb.

I found using cheap conditioner caused problems in itself.

You need to comb every couple of days though.

Nitty gritty comb & tea tree conditioner.

Thank you. Smile I'm going to get some of that repellent spray once she's cleared up.

Also, should I mention it to the other parents in her class, to try to control the spread of it? There is a mums facebook page, or should I just mention it to the teacher, so it can be anonymous?

Just tell the teacher and let them put out a 'nit notice'.

I used to use a lavender oil and water spray on my kids hair as I heard it deterred nits, and they never got them while I was using it (but then I got worried about attracting bees to them ....)

Perhaps just a water spray with a couple of drops of tea tree in could be cheaper.
