toddler bed or single with rail?

My DD id 2.2 and I suspect is showing signs of outgrowing her cot. She's a big girl, 2ft tall and 2st in weight so I would say the cot mattress isn't the most comfortable. Also im pregnant and we will be eventually needing the cot.

I had been looking at those cute toddler beds, the ones with the raised sides that you can buy in ikea, and wondering if it would be a good idea to get one or just put her in a single with a rail (we have a single bed in storage for her). Also, we were going to move her into a smaller room and redecorate it for her as her room is decorated for a baby and has room for a cot and bed which is handy for my mum coming to help with the new baby. Would this be too much change? Or would a brand new bed in a new bedroom be a nice thing for her?

TIA

I would go with single bed plus rail- toddler beds have a very short shelf life ime!

I would move her and just involve her in the decorating. Maybe she could choose some wall stickers and the bedding.

Definitely a single. DS went into a single when he turned 2 and its great for doing stories at night or if you have to settle them after a bad dream with a nice cuddle. Just choose one that is nice and low to the ground. John Lewis do a nice low wooden framed one that's good value.

Personally i wouldn't use a rail, too much to fall over with climbing. I used one of the foam bumpers from amazon that sit under the sheet for about 6m with a thick duvet rolled up on the floor in case of falls. DS has never fallen out of bed with this combo.

I do think it helps to move them asap before dc2 arrives. Dd is 6m and Ds never questioned why she had "his" cot.

Hope it goes well.

Thanks for the advice, I think we will just go with the single bed option, I have a nice wooden one in storage so will buy her a nice snuggly memory foam mattress and hope it entices her to sleep past 6am

barberry thats a good idea about letting her decorate, we will ddefinitely do that and I can't wait to snuggle in bed with a story. I saw those foam bumpers. ...do they stay put ok and not slide about the bed?

Some of those ikea toddler beds are actually 165cm long and will last until she's about 8.

We have this one and it's great. Low to the ground and the rail can be on or off. Both my kids have slept in it and liked it.

Yes the foam bumpers do stay put ok. The only issue I've had is i needed deeper fitted sheets to allow room for the bumpers when used both sides of the bed.

Overall though they've been great and v handy when staying away from home.

We have the ikea kritter one and DD (2.5 -went into it 7 months ago) loves it. I think they're a better size and easier for them to climb in and out of. Can't see DD outgrowing it for years as it is really long.

We had loads of changes for DD, cot to bed, moved country and new baby but she was fine and loves her new room and bed.
