Why do developmental milestones make me sad?

So dd1 (aged 5) has just lost her very first tooth and next day brought home her very first school report - and I feel so very emotional about this. Yes - of course, I'm glad she's doing everything she should at the appropriate age - but there's an accompanying sadness I feel too. We read the tooth fairy book together and I was in tears (cue: 'mummmy why are you crying when it's me that's lost my tooth??)

Am I alone in this?? I feel the same when I see dd2 discovering she can climb steps for the first time!

no you're not alone and its even worse when they do it early!! DD1 walked at 8mth and I felt robbed of a baby. was mortified when my second child (now 9mths) pulled himself up at 7mths. Where do our babies go and why can't it last longer.
I'll be completely lost when as a teenager they appear to not need me anymore!

Teenager bb!! . Mine will be 4 on Wednesday and already says ?ok mummy ? Don?t need you- can do it by myself? and nine times out of ten he really can!!!
But yes hex, mile stones are a bitter sweet experience. Nice to know they are developing in a ?normal? way, but oh too soon for my liking.

I found it very difficult letting my sister cut ds's hair at 6 months (she's a hairdresser) but it was past his eyes, laying on his cheeks! When I look at the photos now i can't believe I let it get that long but it really was a difficult emotional time. Traumatic even.

My DS1 is 6.5 years old & hasn't lost a tooth yet, but I am dreading the day he does!
