At what age did your children first go to the cinema? Dd can watch entire (children's) films and understand the rough plot.

Is she too young for the cinema though?

We took dd to see Tinkerbell when she was 2.10, she loved it and sat still throughout. Plenty of little snacks and a snuggly blanket helped too.

I took ds(3 next month) to see despicable me 2 in September.

We had watched the first one and he enjoyed it do thought it a good opportunity to try the cinema.

It worked out that we went on a schoolday and we were the only 2 people in the screen. We had popcorn and sweets and he loved it.

Lots of cinemas do Toddler Time screenings on Tuesdays, with a half-hour programme of things like Peppa Pig & Timmy Time. It can be a good, gentle introduction to sitting in a cinema. Some nice cinemas even do craft activities too :)

DS was 4 when we first took him.

I think it's better if they're a bit older, because it's that much more amazing for them when they realise it's a bit "different" from ordinary TV. The first time is quite a magical thing and I think it's nice to keep it for a time where they are perhaps not experiencing LOTS of things for the first time, makes it a bit more special. Just my opinion though :)

We took DD2 to see Monster's University when it was out at the cinema. She would have been 2.6. She was good! Lots of snacks helped.

I'm going to take her to see Frozen when it comes out as I think she'll love that.

I took DD to Madagascar 3 when she had just turned 2 and she was fine, but didn't seem overly enthusiastic.

Then took her to monsters inc when she was nearly 3 and she loved it!

Took my DD who was just 3 to see Tinkerbell recently. She sat mesmerised throughout. Was a big success. It was a special childrens screening though. Only cost me a couple of quid.
If he can sit through a film, it's worth a try. Be prepared though, some kids find the noise, dark and flashing lights difficult to deal with.

My DS is 2 at Xmas and he's been 3 times with his CM and her brood of kids at different ages. He's been very well behaved apparently maybe wandered off but came back, stayed quiet.......I think she's quite bonkers Grin

dd1 about 2 1/4 to see The Rugrats Movie, so lots of small children and pretty relaxed, and she loved it. I think the others than all went from babies with the older ones. I remember taking 2 1/4 year old ds to whichever Harry Potter was out, and he sat there completely transfixed, but I knew he had an amazing attention span so thought he'd be fine.

DD2 went nearly every week that I was pregnant with DD3, so from 2.5 to 3 and was great, DD3 is still a bit too much of a wriggle bum though at 3, just depends. I would never take an under 4 to anything other than a cheap seats kids' showing though.
