You may know I have been practising child-led potty training (ie can't be arsed). Today ds had nappy off all morning and I am proud to announce 3 wees and A POO in the potty

Cod will be so proud of us....

Yes I can't argue with that.

Hey but come on, cod, I want some PRAISE here. I may just as well keep him in nappies if I don't get some kudos from you

wilco's do plain white pants, and boxers, which have stopped my 3 year old's poo in it's tracks!

F&Z don't be surprised if he is suddenly dry at night too. ds1 is, we leave a potty in his room and he gies when he feels like it

NotQuiteCockney · 11/07/2006 13:22

My DS1 still has a bottle of water in the bed. (I don't sleep without a bottle of water to hand, so why should he?) He was having nappy problems as he was getting his willy out, so we lifted him at 10pm for ages, then stopped when we thought he was ready.

Oh, and we would just take a potty when out. Dump wee down a drain, poo in a bin (I guess you could bag it? Not sure whether we did). Use wipes on bottoms and on the pot, all done.

goreousgirl · 11/07/2006 13:29

FandZ COD here (shh not really everyone) - Well Done - here's a shiny gold stiker AND a lollipop. (might keep her happy till COD arrives).....

My son is 2.2 and I'm desparate to get him on the loo - not a dicki bird yet - excuse the pun.

Have a sticker from me anyhow - I think you're BOTH great!!

FrannyandZooey · 11/07/2006 13:30

Yes I am not feeling quite blase enough to just dump my child's effluent in the street, but going in a nappy-lined potty seemed to work ok. I am sure this phase won't last forever. I don't remember doing all this potty crap with any of the children I nannied for - I am sure we are just training earlier so all these little toilet seats and potties get carted around everywhere.

A lollipop? For me?

Why can't you dump your child's waste in the street? I'm not suggesting dumping poo, but wee is surely ok, isn't it? It's not like the streets aren't full of dog wee. (And it's not like your DS won't be eager to pee on trees once he gets the knack of it ...)

goreousgirl · 11/07/2006 13:38

I know, FandZ - I have a daughter who is 6 who decided she wanted to use the loo at 2.5 (in spite of me trying for the first time at about 11 mo )- also I took her out of nappies at night at the same time because I thought 'that was what you did'- she's been brilliant - but I still lift her at 11pm at night now!! Not because she'll wet the bed, but because she wakes up then wants me to put her back to sleep (yes, at 6!) With DS - it seems lots of (mostly childless) people are commenting on him being in nappies - he's quite big - but I do feel a bit pressurised - and pre school starts in Oct....

FrannyandZooey · 11/07/2006 13:40

Yes I think it is fine, NQC, I am just being a bit shy. Some people round here seem to get upset even by seeing your child on a potty, and I really don't want to get any abuse and frighten ds off the whole idea.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 11/07/2006 13:50

Eww, really? What do they expect children to do?

Actually, pre-kids, I did used to be a bit sniffy about little boys peeing on bushes etc, but now that I've got kids I understand.

colditz · 11/07/2006 13:52

These same people who get sniffy about children weeing in public usually have massive dogs that sh!t everywhere.

FrannyandZooey · 11/07/2006 17:23

He went in a real toilet when we were out, but forgot just now when playing in the garden. He was playing with the tap so maybe just too challenging with all that tinkling water

tamum · 11/07/2006 17:29

Ds was 3 and a bit when he finally trained himself (pretty much) and everything fell into place really quickly, I think because of his age. He was dry at night within weeks, and using toilets out and about very quickly too. Only one accident, ever. I bet you'll find the same, because ds was never Mr Independence and he managed

FrannyandZooey · 11/07/2006 18:02

Aaaargh diarrhoea

someone up there is having a laugh

cod, have you got friends in high places?

OP posts:
poisson · 11/07/2006 18:14

why?

FrannyandZooey · 11/07/2006 21:03

I thought maybe you and Twig had arranged some divine retribution for my hubris in thinking he was potty trained. The poor mite did even manage to get to the potty the first time, but when I was upstairs cleaning it tragedy struck

He was beside himself, it is only the second time in his life I think he has had an upset stomach, and it had to be the day he had no nappy on

On the bright side thank god for laminate flooring
