Right definately getting reuasbles in the next 2 weeks. my ds is 16.5mths and a new baby due in 4.5wks.
I am hoping to get a birth to potty pack so that they can share the 1 set. I'm told that shaped are easier and less hassle than prefolds. Also that the velcro can wear out, I'm unsure about nappy nippers so I am looking at the poppered variety.
What do you recommend? What exactly will I need?
Shapped nappies, wraps, liners boosters etc etc.
I keep looking at websites and still can't grasp whats best.

I@d first check with your council to see if they offer any incentives to use cloth - lots give money back or vouchers when you buy from certain websites or catalogues, etc. My own council recently were offering £50......think it's quite a generous one
anyways - cloth nappies are such a minefield as there ARE so many different kinds and types like you've said! If you're thinking birth to potty - motherease are excellent - I bought some for dd2 and started using them on her at 10 weeks, still using them now at 18 months. They come with a snap in liner/booster. Motherease wraps are also v good - I used the velcro type when she was little as I found it gave a better fit, but now use snaps. (the velcro hasn't worn out - they are waiting to be used for new baby in Octber..)
Motherease aren't my favourites, but they've never leaked on dd, wash and dry well, and were v economical

I'd suggest either doing a trial (check here for different trials available) or buy one of each that you fancy and see what works best for you.

If you get Motherease wraps they will work over anything you buy, so maybe get one for each of your LOs (say one velcro and one popper) and when you're sure what you like then buy more.

One I would recommend to try which is new and very lovely is Swaddlebees organic velour onesize, I've got one and it's gorgeous - they are expensive but Babykind do a 70% moneyback guarantee if you don't get on with it.

I don't know anyone who doesn't swear by Bamboozles, and the large size can be used from birth if you fold down the front. Really absorbent, and we use them as a night nappy as well.

Agree that Motherease wraps are good, but I have recently been converted to wool wraps which I now prefer as they are more breathable and v. easy to care for.

burstingbug · 11/07/2006 15:41

how many of each would you recommend?

wam-bamboo Like tots, but slightly slimmer, and an incredible birth to potty range. They are nippa rather than popper though.

BonyM · 11/07/2006 20:41

Hmm, you want to use them for 2 babies, so I would start with 25 nappies, 5 wraps. You might find you need more nappies, but better to have too few at first and wash more often then spend money unnecessarily (imo!)..

burstingbug · 11/07/2006 22:34

ok, thanks. Just need to see if I can get a load at a reasonable price. Looking to order them around this time next week. I've looked on loads of nappies websites, but any more suggestions will be greatly recieved.

we're using a wam-bamboo too, it's lovely and very versatile (I've got the nippa birth to potty version but they do velcro too). It easily fits my son at 2 1/2 yrs and folds down very small.

CaptainFlameSparrow · 12/07/2006 14:03

Yay!!! Makes me feel better that I am not just madly telling people about wambamboos and then everyone hate em

Oh, I phoned my council - they do not do incentives for re-usables!!

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 12/07/2006 15:21

Good offer but I don't like Bambino Mio as nappies, I ended up usig them as stuffing for reusables. Don't be afraid of nippas by the way, they are very easy to use, the only disadvantage I find is that husbands/MILs/childminders may be inclined to lose them!

CaptainFlameSparrow · 12/07/2006 16:49

I felt the same - good offer, but don't like bambinos.

We have about 9 nippas floating round now - makes it easy incase one is lost, and nearly always have a snug fitting wrap in the nappy bag just in case we are out and have nothing.

Discovered that a tots bamboozle fits in a wonderoo pocket too

burstingbug · 13/07/2006 12:29

Ok,I may be I've just found these on ebay and have won them. Think I'll buy bits seperatley as and when they come up. Did I do well with my purchase? Is that enough to start me off with my ds?

I would say that would be fine to start with - certainly enough wraps. Depending on how often you want to wash, you may find you need more nappies. I wash every other day and have about twenty nappies.

chipmonkey · 14/07/2006 22:50

Good purchase and very good price!
