Is that stil the case or if it has changed, and you have succumbed to CBeebies, when did you start and why?

DS loves CBeebies and I'm not ashamed to say that he has his favouries! He loves to put a wooden spoon between his legs and 'whizz away' like Little Cook!

Don't think I pontificated about things ds would and wouldn't watch/eat/drink/do when I was pregnant, partly because as a first time mother I was winging it and didn't want to have to backtrack. The few things that I did insist on and have stuck to are being able to say please and thank you and knowing when to say them along with good table manners.

I've been so off it the last few weeks and everytime dh rings me up in the day he says just stick dd infront of the tele and she'll be happy and its true.

Sometimes I just cannot muster up enough energy to do the things she wants me too.

EvesMama · 09/07/2006 21:02

i was also not going to let dd eat chocolate!!!LOL

my 3 year old wouldnt be counting to 20 in spanish had i not introduced her to dora the explorer!

i hate tv and try to use it as little as poss for children

NappiesGalore · 09/07/2006 21:04

yup. changed totally. doh.

and its not just cbeebies anymore either. dss's influence is well and truly felt in this house and so the power rangers, spiderman, jetix, boomerang, half a ton of hideous advertising rule the day here. and i allow it because frankly, a 6yo, 3yo, 2yo and 6month old is just a bit much really (along with the 45yo baby who fathered them all) and i'll do anything for 5 seconds peace.

oh well. so much for principles eh?

ginmummy · 09/07/2006 21:04

beansprout - do your children watch CBeebies??

LeahE · 09/07/2006 21:08

DS isn't pregnant, but if he were then I probably wouldn't stick him in front of the TV...

Ah, right, I see. Yes, I did think when pg that he wouldn't watch TV until he was at least 2, and yes he does watch it now (pre-2). I do retain a vague smidgen of my principles by sticking to DVDs and non-commercial channels, though.

i used to be so self satisifed that ds1 never really watched tv (i know, how pathetic of me) but when i got preg with ds2, i got a digi box and entered the world of cbeebies.
now he watches a few progs most mornings and the simpsons every evening and i think it is fine. honestly, i think as a first time mother i thought i could be all organic food, no telly, righteous about everything but when you are knackered and can't be arsed the tv is great.
don't have it on in the day and he doesn't ask.
i used to be so opinionated about certain ways of parenting but had 2 boys and now try not to judge as you never know the full story and sometimes you just have to get through the day.
hey ho

I was full of alsorts of ideas when I 1st pregnant now I have 2 I think they have all fallen by the wayside!

My dd doesn't sit still for long enough to watch any television but my ds who is only 6 months loves the telvision I don't have it on much but if my dd is screaming I might put it on for him whilst I sort dd out. Might be bad but can't be supermum all the time

divamummy · 09/07/2006 21:10

i did say that when i was pg, but now dd loves cbeebies. i try to control her tv, somedays i play with her all day and we dont watch tv at all. if im busy doing something or surfing[guilty pleasure] yes i do turn tv on. it started about 8m since dd showed great interest in tweenies. but i only do it 2-3 days a week. sometimes i only put music on. and she loves too

beansprout · 09/07/2006 21:11

ginmummy - I just have one ds who is 20 months and he doesn't at the moment but I'm sure he will as he gets older. I completely understand why parents with 2 or more would use the tv though.

Ds actually starts dancing whenever he hears the music for the BBC news as he has seen more of this than any other television programme!

I was on crutches for the last 3 months of my 2nd pregnancy - cbeebies was a godsend.

ginmummy · 09/07/2006 21:16

When I was breastfeeding ds would actively turn his head away and watch Ready Steady Cook, even though he was only a few months old and couldn't see the tv that well! He definately had a thing for RSC as it was the only programme he did this with, and he still asks for it on today, along with Countdown and the news!

PinkTulips · 09/07/2006 21:21

ginmumy - wierd it must be those shirts ainsley wears because ready steady cook has facinated my dd from a few months old too!

as for cbeebies i have an extremely busy active 17 month old who can't sit still for 2 mins and is unbelievably clingy and i'm heavily pregnant so yes i try my best to aim her at cbeebies but unfortunately her attention span is about 10seconds long so it doesn't help much!
