Help me before I lose the plot!

Ds1 is just 3, and all he does all.day.long is moan, whinge, tantrum, ect ect ect which is fine, that's what they do right? please tell me it's normal

The problem, I fear, is actually me, I don't know how to deal with it. I've tried ignoring but it just gets to the point where I feel like my head will actually explode if I hear the whiney moans of mummmmmyyyyy, biscuiiiiittttttt, mummmmuyyyy mummmmmmyyyyyy mummmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyy
Argh!

He seems to have lost the ability to just ask a simple question without it turning into a meltdown

How do I deal with this??

Ah I feel your pain! I bloody hope it's normal, DS is far more challenging at 3.5 than he was at 2.

We've managed to sort most of the whining with a "please ask me with your lovely nice voice" or "I'm sorry, I don't understand, could you use your nice voice?" took 50x a day for a couple of weeks though

Still working on tantrums, tooth brushing, not taking it all out on his baby sister... It's relentless.

Sometimes I wonder where my lovely boy has gone. And then we have a good moment with cuddles and I see him again.

I used the same method as ricepud, kept saying I don't understand whinging. Eventually it works. But takes ages! I also had some success with reward charts short term for asking nicely, not moaning.

It is hard going. Managed to get eldest sorted then little one now stared whinging!

I have told mine that I can't understand that voice. To start with I'd give an example of saying whatever it was in a non whingy way. Praise nice asking. NEVER give in to whinging. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore.
(I will even walk away and say come and find me when you are ready to ask nicely.)
Bloody exhausting though!!

Phew not just me then!
Seriously it's like a form of mental torture!!

I Will be trying those tactics tomorrow, I think half the battle is I've eventually been giving in just to shut him up Grin

I can also sympathise with the tantrums, teeth brushing and taking it out in baby sister Hmm

Dd2 is like this. Won't ask for help if she gets stuck with something, just automatically whines and cries.

Am sick of the sound of my own voice trying to explain and make her ask nicely and then telling her off.

Aaaarrrrggghh!! Sad
