Shifting trapped wind in 5 week old

So we've sorted out the problem with the colic and were prescribed colief. It was ace as soon as the build up of wind had gone he was a different baby. Unfortunately the colief ran out on Saturday and we couldn't get any more til Sunday so he had a whole days worth of feeds without colief. Now he's got trapped wind and he won't stop screaming. He's not crying, just screams every now and then, with lots of grunting and straining noises. I've tried all the massages and winding etc, but it seems pretty stubborn and nothing will settle him. Any tips?

Gripe water! We could hear the bubbles dissolving in DS' tummy as soon as we gave it to him!

My DD had this, and the only thing that seemed to work for several weeks was to put her over my shoulder, abdomen on my shoulder blade and walk around and sing. OH did a lot more miles than me.
She was bf, but she was a piglet and I had a huge supply, so it was like her trying to drink from a hosepipe. Smile

Haha @silverapples....i have a similar problem. If my daughter stops drinking, panic! Its squirting all over the place. Haha...have you tries laying him across your lap on his tummy and tapping his back?

cycling their legs and lying them face down along my forearm, with their head in my palm, rocking and patting, were the best moves for my gassy babies.

We've tried aaaall the winding positions, I was doing them all and the massages for hours last night, think we both got about 2 hours sleep. He would drop off for 20 mins or so, twitch and wake up and start screaming and straining again. I didn't get a single fart out of him last night so it must be so so painful for him

Tiger in the tree hold?

Next time if you run out, try Infacol as a stopgap?

SilverApples · 11/11/2013 16:44

So frustrating isn't it? You's do anything to help and there is nothing you can do. Sad

RiotBecky · 11/11/2013 16:45

We've got infacol but that can take a week to work, he was having that before the doctor prescribed the colief. Can you use colief and gripe water at the same time?

We would lie her on her back and slowly and gently push her knees up to her chest, both together and one at a time. Seemed to release quite a lot - some days she was like a percussion instrument! - though of course that was wind that had made it farther down.

Have you tried the bear hug as a winding techique. It's very effective. Face to face with your child. Wrap your arms around him and squeeze. Release. Squeeze again.
