What are your favourite toddler books?

My son has just turned two and he loves reading, which I'm really pleased about as I love reading too and now I can enjoy all the kids books again Smile. What are your and your toddlers favourites? We love the two books by Chris Haughton Lost and Oh No George. A new favourite is when Once they were giants which I thought might be too old but he loves. He loves Toddle Waddle and the woodland friends Julia Donaldson books esp.Postman Bear. He also loves a mr tumble book that we got given though I am not so keen, very repetitive. I love dogger but think it's a bit old for him as lots of words but he does like some of the pictures. He also likes the 100 words style books which are a bit boring for me! Oh and we both love Goodnight Moon. He shows no interest in 'We're going on a bear hunt' which is meant to be a real favourite. Interested to hear other people's favourites.

My DD currently loves:
Each, Peach, Pear, Plum
Ernie the Eye Monster
Handa's surprise
Za Zas Baby Brother
Madeline
Going on a Bear Hunt
And most things by Julia Donaldson. We also have a hard back collection of Quentin Blake stories and rhymes which is great.

My DS (2.5) loves The Tiger Who Came To Tea and Aliens Love Underpants. Also, anything with Thomas the Tank Engine in.

BarbiesBeaver · 07/11/2013 14:45

Donaldson books and Quentin Blake books mainly at the moment -Cockatoos is good for counting, and Mrs Armitage very popular.
Each Peach is my favourite book - so much to see and gorgeous pictures.
Lots of Richard Scarry (funniest stories ever is good for bedtimes).
Moomin books, Hairy MacClarey (make sure you put on funny voices), Mr Men all good fun too.

Ds seems to like any book he comes across really. He likes his fireman Sam stories (even though the stories in them are dreadful!), hungry caterpillar and any other stories written by that author, dear zoo, Elmer stories, bear hunt, anything with Thomas and friends.
One book that I've just ordered is 'just like my dad' because I bought it ages ago and it came with a toy lion. That lion became his most favourite toy, his comforter, the toy that he takes everywhere and goes to bed with. He loves the label on it. It's very tatty, rageddy and almost threadbare, but he loves it. Unfortunately he lost it today whilst out in town with my sister and she has no idea where or when it was lost. Gutted. He's gone to bed with horse and mmonkey instead but is upset because lion wasn't there. So I've bought a new copy with a new lion, hopefully it will arrive within the next few days.
Sorry, that's not what your thread was about but it's upset me seeing ds so unhappy Sad

Peace at last. I think by Jill Murphy or might have just made that name up. She has this read most bedtimes.

Not already mentioned:
Ten friendly fish
Peek a poo is very popular!
The big night night book for bedtime

BarbiesBeaver · 08/11/2013 14:11

Miaow- the Meg and Mog lift the flap book is very good. And the This is Lulu by Camilla Reid book has lots of flaps too. Both aren't too boring for adults either!

Jellybellyrbest · 10/11/2013 08:44

My 19MO currently adores....Hooray for Fish, The Chimpanzees of Happy Town, Hug, Fox's Socks & any hide the flap books in general......A Peppa Pig sounds book called 'Dinosuar Stomp' & she rhymes off the characters. Couldn't believe she actually knew as many of them as she did!

Jellybellyrbest · 10/11/2013 08:45

Lift the flap...not hide the flap :-/

A squash and a squeeze.
All the MR men and little miss. Mr Tickle especially.
Room on the broom
The gruffalo
Stick man. The illustrations are so cute. There is this one where all the little sticks are in bed and they have these miserable but really cute expessions on their faces. xx

AuditAngel · 12/11/2013 21:58

We love the last noo noo too. It disappeared for ages (perhaps Granny doesn't like it and hid it......?)

My son is 2.3 and is utterly obsessed with books. I'm English, but living in America, so try to mix it up between English and American authors. Favourites right now include:

The House on East 88th Street
Tony's Bread
Any Curious George story
Any Julia Donaldson, though he particularly loves Stick Man and the Highway Rat
Red Sings from Treetops
Any Mr. Men
When Ruby Tried to Grow Candy
Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy
Any by Syd Hoff

NoComet · 14/11/2013 00:37

I don't want to go to bed (little tiger press)
Ness the nurse, a board book, but it has a lovely rhyme and teachers counting with out DC noticing.
Bear and the blue balloon by Mike ink pen (this one has various surprises and isn't 2 yearold proof, but it's great to read to them)
