Does anybody else deliberately delay potty training, because...

... they are just lazy like me?
dd2 will be three next month and I still haven't started. She always does poos on the toilet, couldn't bear changing poo-y nappies by her! But for wees - well she wears pull-ups, changes them herself... it's just soooooooo easy, no rushing to the toilet when out and about...

we tried w/dd1. she cries now when she sees the potty.

she was 3 last month.

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2006 21:22

I was waiting till he was ready. Now I think he is ready. He refuses to try (3.2)

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2006 21:23

Just out of interest, why couldn't you bear changing her pooey nappies?

I wouldn't say your lazy after all you have had to deal with lately.
Maybe now its summer you could start potty training

Jasnem · 07/07/2006 21:24

The later you leave it the easier it will be.
Leave it a couple more months and she'll do it on her own.

emkana · 07/07/2006 21:24

Because they smell horrible?

Much easier also to clean bum when poo is not spread all over, if you get my drift.

i'd like to try the letting her run round naked, but we have no outdoor space in this flat and it's a rental covered in carpet except bathroom and kitchen.

I'm doing the same with night nappies....I just can't face the night time changes of pjs, sheets, etc....plus she's being difficult enough to potty train during the day.....It's not true the later you wait the easier it gets, by the time I was sure she was physically ready she didn't want to have any of it. we finally managed at 3 and 9 months, as school was looming and I decided to force it. She still has loads of accidents.......... I'm not saying this will happen if you wait too long, just don't take anything for granted, every child is different!!

All of my children self trained - not because I am lazy but because I believe it is better for them if they do it when they are ready - I don't really "get" training children - they are not dogs!

Anyway, that aside (cause I know most other people disagree with me there!) I wouldn't worry - as has been said leave it a while longer and she will do it herself anyway!

schneebly · 07/07/2006 22:15

I kind of did with DS who is almost three but did it last week because he starts nursery in August and they want him dry - he just clicked and has had only 2 minor wee accidents since last weekend! I think it was so easy because he was a bit older and more ready!

sparklemagic · 07/07/2006 22:28

secur, I totally agree with you. I think there is an awful lot to be said for being led by the child a bit more - we're in such a hurry in this country; it's the same with lots of things, no harm in waiting!

LadyTophamHatt · 07/07/2006 22:31

me.....just haven't got the patience ATM

hunkermunker · 07/07/2006 22:31

I'm doing child led potty training, and baby led weaning.

I'm a "nyah" mum with semi-hippy tendencies, I've decided.

laundrylover · 07/07/2006 23:39

Have you tried her in knickers at all? Could be that she is only weeing every couple of hours anyway so it could be really easy to make the change.
I guess what I'm saying is that she may already be potty trained! I am very much for old fashioned early potty training and DD1 was dry in the day at 18 months but I went straight from cloth to knickers with no pull ups.
Anyway Emkana enjoy your new expanded family for a while as we had a sharp increase in accident rates when DD2 arrived so now may not be the best time!

KristinaM · 07/07/2006 23:44

we tried to "train" DD but she wasnt interested. she's a very ...ahen....determined child. She did it herself at 23 months. Wouldnt give up night nappies til she was nearly 5 1/2
