I know Gingeme, there are some great, really forward-looking, non-sexist, non-stereotyped shows and then some crap ones. Actually Big Cook Little Cook drives me mad too (Big Cook is so awkward, Little Cook just annoying) but I have to admit its non-sexist credentials.

Gingeme · 07/07/2006 12:06

Tikabilla is fun though Sarah Jane needs to be bought down a peg or two! I love Tamba very sweet with out being too over poweringly puppety if you catch my drift? I like the bits where they show you how things are made. The bin one was especialy good because we have one in our local park. My ds loves the Tikabilla clock too.

CarolinaMoose · 07/07/2006 12:06

ds is major fan of blue cow (MOOOOO! he shouts when the storymaking pooter is choosing a story)

He also loves Roly Mo, Doodle Do (especially the sand worms), Teletubbies and Bob.

I've become quite partial to the Shiny Show for some reason, esp Tigs.

agree re guilt though

He he ds went to work and found himself singing the title tune to Shiny show without realising it Think hes a closet fan!

CarolinaMoose · 07/07/2006 12:09

Tamba is cute but can't sing to save her life. Neither can Pui nor Eva.

FFS, is it that hard to find people who can act and sing?

CarolinaMoose · 07/07/2006 12:10

you send your ds out to work Gingeme? Up chimneys?

Gingeme · 07/07/2006 12:20

OOPS Sorry meant dh. Thats what being 5+6 months preg and Piriton and no sleep does for ya.zzzzzzzz........

Overrun · 07/07/2006 12:31

We are also cbeebies fans, but the usual guilt applies, I now have a rule about the tv not going on before 4pm. Then hopefully they will watch it as I get tea ready.
Does anyone elses child hate Smarteenies? Ds1 goes balistic when it comes on, he seems scared of it, which is odd! I was talking to a mum at toddler group the other day and her son is also scared of it, so there you go.
I too like blue cow, and am just generally amazed by how much I ended up watching it when it is on!

CarolinaMoose · 07/07/2006 12:33

I think quite a few find the Big Picture/Small Picture bit scarey - it's too hectic for them.

Gingeme · 07/07/2006 12:37

Well just look at the presenters. Think thats your answer to that one.

Overrun · 07/07/2006 12:40

Yes, it is the big picture little picture that he particularly doesn't like, it is very hectic as you say

Gingeme · 07/07/2006 12:46

Do like Doogy the dog on Smarteenies though. Hes a dog with a sense of humour! They are few and far between these days.

clairemow · 07/07/2006 12:49

I hate Blue cow!! When I was early pg, it made me sick when she whizzed round in the bus. Bleurgh. But DS loves Aunty Mabel and Pippin (esp the poo sewage episode...!), and bursts into floods of tears when it ends. And Balamory is a firm favourite too (but much more boring...). And Teletubbies, which I think is hilarious. Time for tubby custard, time for tubby custard.

dd1 was always terrified of Aunty Mabel.
No idea why

DH has been heard humming the tweenies tune when out, too.

Agree about Fimbles. DDs have hardly ever watched it as I turn it off when they come on.
The only cbeebies they watch now is doodle do. They are big enough to watch it and then go and do the activites with very little supervision...a godsend when I was heavily pg.

intergalacticwalrus · 07/07/2006 13:00

I like CBeebies on the whole. It's a bloody godsend sometimes as well.

DS's faves are Balamory, Lazy town, Tweenies and Big Cook Little Cook (which DS calls Big Cock. Not too far from the mark, actually, as they are a pair of penisies)

I have to say though, there's a lot of irritation on there, namely Stephanie from Lazytown (she's the sort of kid that would have had her head kicked in in my day) Justin (ARRRRRGGGHHHHHH) and that bird from Razzledazzle with the cavernous nostrils and freaky eyes. Also, can't stick Fab Lab. Prof's voice is far too sinister for my liking.

DP and I also find ourselves whiling away time imagining scenarios for Balamory characters, like Miss Hoolie being a crack ho and Suzie Sweet running an international drugs cartel from the shop.

intergalacticwalrus · 07/07/2006 13:04

Another thing, is it a term of employment at Suzie Sweet's shop to be slightly challenged in the neck dept? Neither suzie or penny have necks.

Tatties · 07/07/2006 13:10

My ds freaks out at Big Picture/Small Picture on Smarteenies too.

Gingeme · 07/07/2006 14:48

Little Robots brill! Bring back Rubba Dubbas! Isnt Chris Jarvis so cute! Very gay but very cute!!!!!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 07/07/2006 14:52

The best thing about cbeebies is no insurance/loan adverts! Wahey! Just childrens tv, no pushy ads inbetween the programmes!
