Have you tried different brand nappies or different size nappies? I found with my little boy that Huggies or Asda's Little Angels had less leakages than Pampers.

And also changing the nappies frequently helped with DS about every 3-4 hours at that age at least!

Don't forget leaky poo nappies should be pulled down their bodies not over their heads to avoid poo in face situationsvoice of experience

Thanks, I started out with own brand, tried tesco, asda, morrisons & Sainsbury's, now on pampers, I find them more absorbent but mayb they are the wrong shape around the leg for her, I expect a leakage if I have left the nappy unchanged too long, but when one runny poop leaks out all over white tights in a fresh nappy its a bit annoying, I will try Huggies next perhaps. Haha ....I will remember that one... Rather avoid pooey faces :-)

Do you need to go up a size?

Check weight and size. They'll leak if too big and too small. Is the frilly bit after the elastic being pulled out? If that's left tucked in ALL nappies will leak.

Scoutfinch1 · 01/11/2013 19:47

I think Huggies have been or are in the process of being discontinued.

As they grow what brands suit them can change. I found Pampers awful for leaks when dd was newborn but by 7/8 weeks we had no problems with them. Also, have you tried Boots. We tend to not have leaks with them on the legs, although if it is a really bad nappy there are sometimes leaks up the back. As others have said look at the sizing on the different brands.

Oscar "Is the frilly bit after the elastic being pulled out?"

I wish this advice was given on the packs! We're inexperienced (never been around babies) first time parents and we learned this by trial and error and asking around!

I second trying the next size up, and different brands.

Trixybelle · 02/11/2013 21:41

I'm assuming chip meant pull the vest down!
Aldi nappies were great till DD was 10weeks then we went thru every brand till we landed on pampers simply dry. Everything else leaked especially up the back, even other pampers styles.

Geckos48 · 02/11/2013 21:42

I always get a size bigger!

Plus lidl nappies are the best and cheaper than most others.

BabyClam · 02/11/2013 21:53

Haha! We also had weeks of leaky nappies (and wet baby grows, soaked swaddle wraps, and Moses basket sheets) because we had no idea you have to fluff the nappies up before you use them!
I even searched the packet for instructions and there were none.
Nice to know it isn't just us.
The Asda little angels are good, if used correctly.Wink

Thank you all, all advice taken on board & hoorah no leaks today :-) ... Just sick all over her newly changed clothes this morn but u can't win them all! Does anyone know about 'doctor brown' bottles? I have just ordered some as someone recommended & said they don't get wind if you use them ...sounds too good to be true to me but it's worth a go!

...also very happy to see I am not the only mummy with the leaky nappy issues :-) xx

You fluff nappies up? I'm 36+1 with my first and now totally panicking that I won't even be able to put a nappy on!

HighVoltage · 03/11/2013 10:20

Hi Angelina - I've found Dr Brown bottles vg for wind (or lack of it).

You still need to burp them obv but I don't stop half way through as some seem to need to.

And another vote for size up if having lots of leaking. I don't think I fluff up though, not quite sure what that means (so maybe I do).

BabyClam · 03/11/2013 21:04

Sorry, I said about fluffing up. I just mean pulling the elasticated bits away from the rest of the nappy so they hug the legs when you put them on. Basically pulling the nappy into a U shape after it comes out of the packet flattened.
If you don't do it the elastic doesn't form a barrier round the legs and wee leaks out of the leg holes.

I have to confess to being so clueless I got the hospital staff to demonstrate bathing the baby before we took him home too.

oscarwilde · 04/11/2013 11:06

[Grin] Fluffing up - scrolled down to see wtf that was about!

Don't be too afraid to cross over the seals at the waistband too. Don't cut the child in two but make sure it is snug. The main thing I find to watch out for is that they need to go on nice and high with all the "fabric" right up the back. Since they are pooing lying down it's obviously going to go nice and high so it helps to catch it! One to watch especially if a grandparent/friend does a nappy change. GP's in particular may not have used a disposable before.
