Its daunting isn't it? Go to your nearest supermarket and buy one packet of size 1/newborn nappies. Open the packet and have a look at one, practice putting it on a teddy. Do it once and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. The newborn ones are all cut lower at the front to accommodate the umbilical cord stump and they are very very soft.

Brandswise, all the supermarket ones are ok. Aldi are very good, Tesco are very good. Don't buy more than a couple of packets of size 1/newborn as babies can move up sizes very quickly. Don't fix on one brand til you know what suits your baby - they are all different and what fits nicely on a chubby babe can leak terribly on a skinny one.

Asdas little Angels and Aldis mamia are very good. Id get one pack of the smallest newborn nappies then the next size up then when you figure out which fits best you can send someone out to get some more.
