LeahE · 04/07/2006 23:05

This gives you the approximate reading age for each stage.

peasinapod · 04/07/2006 23:06

boring bad bad books without the alex brychta wit and for children who are more than capable of reading proper books...i feel it unnecessary to stick to a scheme for kids that can read!

LeahE · 04/07/2006 23:16

You can get to a list of books from here (have to follow down the links though). Then compare the stages on the books with the stages on the chart I posted earlier to find the suggested reading age/school year.

Anything at stage 14 or 15 in the program should be the same, i.e.

Stage 14: Year 5 Term 2 - Year 6 Term 1 (10 years ? 10 years 6 months)
Stage 15: Year 6 Term 1 - Year 6 Term 3 (10 years 6 months ? 11 years)

References to the Treetops non-fiction books however imply that they are grouped into "Stages 13-14" (i.e. from 9 years 6 months to 10 years 6 months) and "Stages 15-16" (i.e. from 10 years 6 months to 11 years 6 months) rather than strictly into stages 13, 14, 15 and 16 separately. I don't know about that as I don't have any to hand.

peasinapod · 04/07/2006 23:35

Really really sorry I didnt realise that the books in stage 14 and 15 are called playscripts I knew thay were non fiction but I thought playscripts were actually 'play scripts'god I am so stupid at times . Do you think this is an accurate reading age or a bit on the generous side

I have to know though . I think they are on the generous side what do you think in your professional opinion . ?

OP posts:
LeahE · 04/07/2006 23:41

I don't have a professional opinion (well, I have lots of professional opinions, but not about reading schemes). I'm just an innocent bystander and my practical experience so far is limited to singing along with the "having fun with the Magic Key" song

SparklyGothKat · 05/07/2006 00:29

wish I hadn't looked at that link DD1 is 6 and is on level 1, which is a reading age of 3.6-4.6

peasinapod · 05/07/2006 19:59

They all get there in the end and when it clicks they become really confident and race ahead .
