How can I extend babies naps?

5 month old is sleeping 30mins-40mins but no longer.

I tried the wake to sleep method but it ended up waking baby up and I ended up doing pupd twice and letting baby whinge back to sleep. It took half hour for baby to fall back to sleep.

Is this really the most effective way to get baby napping longer?

Isn't 5 monts quite young to go all night without milk? Personally I wouldn't do that until they are on solids - sleep has to e balanced with them getting enough nutrition

No baby needs feeds overnight if they are taking enough liquid in the day.

If say they drink 20oz it doesn't matter when over 24 hours they have it

That's nonsense - small babies have absolutely tiny stomachs and are designed by nature to feed little and often - they are biologically designed to have frequent feeds over a 24 hour period -

Not at all. Many babies do prefer to eat little and often hence they wake in the night. However by 5 months there is no reason why they can't have 6oz at 9pm, then 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm. That's 32oz in a day. They are 5 months old not newborn

Others will simply have less at each meal. And then continue overnight.

I would expect most babies to be able to go at least 7 hours ie 11pm-6am from 12 weeks if that's what parents want.

Just wondering if anyone has had any success? I'm home today and DS (now 21 wks) is on his 4th 45 min nap of the day!! Have given up tbh. .if it's going to happen it'll happen!
