Washing baby - no bathtub

My baby is 7wks, we use a small baby bath at the moment but she will be too long for it soon and we only have a shower, no bathtub. What do other people do in this situation? I've seen a bigger baby bath called a flexitub which could work, anyone tried it? Does anyone shower with their baby? My dd really loves her baths.

How about a small plastic paddling pool? I got one from a cheap shop years ago. It was 2 foot across.

Mine used to like scrunching up in the sink when they were older, just for the novelty of it.

The kitchen sink?

Norfolknway · 22/10/2013 09:34

We used a blow up duck baby bath from Tesco (I think)
It fitted right at the bottom of the shower cubicle Smile

I only have showers here too. I use a baby bathtub in the floor of the shower - fill it using the shower head. I got the biggest one I could comfortably fit in the floor of the shower and DD is nearly 4 now and still uses it very happily. When it's not in use it goes on top of a cupboard out of the way.

I just used to wash mine in the kitchen sink. Can't see any reason not to have her in the shower with you.

We used to take DS into the shower with us, but it does need two really.

One person in the shower with temperature checked and spray set to gentle and the other outside with baby.

Pass baby in with door slightly left slightly ajar.
Make baby damp (DS loved the spray).
Other one sticks their arm in and applies the cleaning product (or cloth with product on).
Wash baby.
Rinse baby.
Pass baby out to other person waiting with warm towels.
Person in shower out to dry themselves.

I always found showering with baby very Sloopy and thought I'd drop her. Kitchen sink would be my choice easier on your back too

BurberryQ · 22/10/2013 09:47

how about one of these placed into the shower tray and filled from the shower?

HopLittleFroggiesHopSkipJump · 22/10/2013 09:50

DD is 13months, goes in baby bath in shower base, often while i shower. once she's standing I'm planning to do part showers part baby bath.
Have given her baths in a bathtub at a friends a few times, and its much harder work than the baby bath, have to hover with hands right by her as she can fall/slip easier with there being more space.

Kitchen sink vote here to!

nicole1528 · 22/10/2013 09:54

Sink, or DS just used to go in the shower with DP for a wash (DP is hairy, so we figured it would be easier for him to hold and wash a slippery baby)

FriskyHenderson · 22/10/2013 10:02

We used to use a washing/gardening trug, a fiver in Tesco. Sit it in the shower tray and fill with the hose l.

rachyconks · 22/10/2013 10:05

IKEA baby bath is big. I've been using it for DD for 11 months. It became easier when she could sit herself, but until then she fit in no probs. it's only £5.50 too!

Sunnysummer · 22/10/2013 10:07

We use the Stokke foldable bath, it's been awesome for DS for the past 7 months and we even used it for my visiting 2 year old nephew with no issues!

It tucks away easily for storage and can easily be packed up for travelling too.

aaaahyouidiot · 22/10/2013 10:09

Inflatable paddling pool in bottom of shower, or soft trug from garden shop :)

CleanAllTheThings · 22/10/2013 11:00

Sunnysummer, that's the one I was considering!

Hadn't thought of using the sink but our kitchen is freezing this time of year as no heating in there.

I'm gonna try the shower tonight when dp is home!

Glad it was helpful! We LOVE ours, and a couple of friends have bought it since seeing it - it's so handy, and more of a mini bath than just a baby bath Smile
