How to occupy 17mo indoors

How do you occupy your 17mo indoors? I think I am rubbish at playing, DH seems much more natural. DS loves books so we read alot. He has cars and a garage, a ball pit, soft toys, a fisher price disney train, crayons, a pop up tunnel and lots of light up and noisy toys too. He isn't so interested in tv. He is entering the climbing stage and I feel I need to supervise much o his play to stop him damaging himself or my home. How do you keep yours occupied indoors? After 20 minutes we both seem bored to tears.

I would add things into the day that you like that you can do together

Cooking/ baking- get a chair and let him help mix/ chop mushrooms/ eat ingredients

Bath - fill bath with loads of bubbles and toys and both get in. Can pass an hour easily

Let him play with clean make up brushes whilst you get ready

Read him magazines that you like as well as the gruffolo

Fill clean litter tray with couscous as indoor sandpit. Add spoons/ small sieve etc. can also fill with water and calpol syringes

Play dough ( I like playing with also!), paint, pencils etc

Get a all in one rain suit for him and umbrella for you so you can go out in the rain ( the love puddles/ wet/ mud/ leaves)

can you make a pile of cushions for him to climb on and around so he can do that safely

also dont feel you have to play with him all the time, its good for them to entertain themselves......

Mine (13 and 30 months) play with and entertain each other. I get down and play with them at different times through the day, interact with them together and individually with different things, but generally just let them get on with it. We spend most of our day in the kitchen / dining room as the living room hasn't got a door and opens straight onto the stairs, so they don't spend hours in front of the tv (ds watches peppa pig and fireman sam when dd naps or as a treat), instead they look at books, sit on the chairs, play with the toys, pots, pans and cooker (the toy cooker of course!), bricks etc. I just get on with the household jobs such as cooking, cleaning, hoovering etc. If it's not chucking it down we walk to the shop and duck pond or go to the park, if it is slinging it down but we're getting cabin fever then we go to a relative's house for a while.
