Have growth charts changed in last 20 years?

I'm just wondering if the centile charts are updated on a regular basis, or if they are the same as they were 20 years ago. I was thinking along the lines of 'babies are getting bigger, children are getting bigger, teenagers are getting bigger', so a baby who is now deemed 'underweight' (as both of mine are) may be exactly what an 'ideal weight' baby was when I was a baby.

I'd be really interested to know.

I should add, I don't mean at birth (mine were far from underweight at birth), but as they grow, and the HVs march in with their 'Oh dear, he's only on the 25th centile.....'

They are the exact same ones as far as I ama ware. Babies weights are based on formula fed babaies too.

my dd isn't even on the centile charts for weight, although 35th for height, she has genetic condition which causes it, no other problems really.
WE have special growth chart for her condition and she's on the 75th on that chart for weight and over the 100th for height!
Also they are about to bring out separate ones for breastfed-bottlefed and Downs babies
I was told this when I kicked up fuss about dd being compared to "normal" babies esp since she was breastfed too
All recent exp has taught me is to ignore the charts and scales and look at the baby!

When my ds1 (15 1/2) years was born parents didn't have growth charts, you just had a weight record card. The charts used are the same now as then I think but you only really got to know what centile they were on if they were ill and it was plotted at the hospital or by GP. Or if they were losing weight. They were less bothered by weight then, I seem to remember not having to undress ds1 or even take off his nappy! By the time dd was born (now 10) they had to be naked to be weighed and they had just introduced the red hand held record with the charts inside.
