Which carseat from age 1 up?

Hello,

We need the next carseat up from the baby one and are wondering about getting a rear-facing one, or one that does both forward and rear.

We saw in John Lewis the Maxi Cosi pearl, which does forwards and back, but there aren't many reviews of it. Ideally we'd like one without an isofix.

What have other people bought? Do you have any top tips?

Any ideas appreciated!

I found the rear facing group 1 seats a mine field as it's difficult to compare then all in one place and since they have different fits in different cars, you have to try before you buy.
We got ours from the in car safety Centre in Milton Keynes. If you can get there I recommend the trip.
We got the britax two way elite, btw. I really like it. It's very open so lots of room for dd as she grows. She's a tall nearly 3yo and still has lots of room and is very happy in it.

if your lo is still within the weight limit for the infant carrier (normally around 29lb/13kg) then they can stay in it until they reach the weight limit or their head is over the back of the seat

we had the kiddypro ones. They are forward facing but have a "torso shield" like a pillow that goes across the tummy, held in place with the seatbelt rather than an internal harness which apparently can stress the neck in collisions. Both ours loved theirs and would fall asleep laying down on it Smile. No fixing required so very easy and light to move between cars.

Britax two way elite here, cant recommend it enough. And it rear faces to 4yo

bundaberg · 14/10/2013 20:27

we have used a britax 2 way elite and a besafe izi combi. would recommend either of those.

my friend has just got a britax maxfix which also looks lovely!

I've got 2 maxi cosi priori XP's. I think they're really sturdy, safe & pretty easy to get in & out the car once you get the knack (I can remove both in under 5 mins). It's a good progression from the cabriofix baby seat. I'd definitely recommend.

BeSafe Izi Combi here. Rear facing is the way forward!

Oriunda · 15/10/2013 06:02

We have the Besafe Isofix easycombi too. Very comfortable and DS always sleeps really well in it.

KatAndKit · 15/10/2013 06:08

Klippan kiss here, its a great seat and ds is very comfy in it. Suitable from birth to four, so can use again when number two comes along. Can use isofix or the seatbelt. It only rearfaces though, if you need the option of both ways the two way elite would be better. I think the new two way pearl is isofix only.

Please choose a rear facing one. A child's chances of surviving a crash increase greatly in one.

miaow what does 'erf ones' mean.

Also, is it safer with isofix than seatbelt or the same?

Thanks!

erf = extended rear facing I.e some rear face to age 4

MortifiedAdams · 15/10/2013 11:35

Isofix is as safe as correctly fitted seatbelt fixing. Having Isofix reduces the room for error when using the seatbelt.

GingerDoodle · 17/10/2013 12:37

After lots of research we got a Britax 2 Way Elite and its fab! Roomy; extended rear facing with the option to turn it round. Installation after watching the video was fairly straight forward.

We got it from incarsafetycentre.co.uk

After watching the crash test videos I would just couldn't put DD in a ff seat and happily paid the extra.
