DVT anyone?

Had my 5day appt with the midwife this morning and she suspects I might have DVT and sent me to get checked at the hospital.

They've admitted me but can't do an ultrasound as its Sunday and don't know when they can do one so I might be stuck here for days. I miss my baby so much already and I'm on the post natal ward with lots of crying babies around me. I just want to cry with them!

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Sad

I had post natal dvt. treatment involved clexane injections because I was breast feeding. I stopped breastfeeding and went onto warfarin tablets. I had weekly then fortnightly bloodtests at a clinic. This tested the medication and altered the dosage. I was the youngest person there by about 50 years, but it was fine.

It is a serious illness and hospital is the best place for you. Hopefully you will be home with your baby very soon.

Congratulations and get well soon. Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Have you not been allowed to take your newborn in with you? I am appalled if that's what you mean has happened to you. I was very ill post natally with dc3 but she stayed with me in the hospital when I was re admitted. Have you asked if you could have your baby with you?

Hope you get scanned soon.

Thanks for your replies. How long did the treatment last AaDB??

Matilda she is at home with my DH so is safe and sound. He didn't want to disrupt the somewhat minimal routine we have managed to achieve with her so far. He had to go home and get me an overnight bag - stupidly unpacked my hospital bag now baby has arrived!!! - so he brought her in for a visit.

It's just heartbreaking hearing other babies when I can't be with mine. Sad

Treatment was six months. It was undiagnosed for 7 weeks and it was in my entire leg. I'm not sure but I think that's a pretty standard time to be medicated.

I was in overnight, I hope you are too. You've probably had an induction and will have another before they let you go. If you are having became injections, get them from the hospital pharmacy if you can. They are expensive and you will need to get them from larger Boots. If you are talking warfarin, you can get the anywhere.

Take care.

Oh dear. We are booked on a flight to Cuba in January. :-(

Just had my first clexane injection. Prescriptions are free for the next year anyway so that's no issue. Irony is I just got rid of my sharps bin from having Gestational Diabetes! D'oh!!

Hopefully it's not even DVT, although my mum just informed me she had it after I was born!

Thanks again! Smile

You may still be able to fly, insurance may be expensive though.

Fingers crossed its something else.

lifeissweet · 13/10/2013 19:24

Oh you poor thing! It's awful being away from your baby so soon.

I had a DVT too - with DS1. As the others said, I had a weekly blood test and was on warfarin for about 6 months.

During my last pregnancy, I had to give myself clexane injections daily, which was a bit of a pain, but not too bad, really. At least I avoided a repeat performance!

I really hope that you are seen early tomorrow and sent home again with any treatment. It would be horrible if they kept you waiting around.

Just try to get some sleep tonight. That is one benefit at least - if you can actually get yourself to sleep.

omuwalamulungi · 13/10/2013 19:30

I've had a DVT (from just under kidneys to knee) because of a protein deficiency in my blood. I take a clexane injection before every flight and declare it on insurance but it has never caused a problem and I've never paid more for insurance. I fly regularly long haul and have had no issues since.

Was in hospital for five days, on warfarin for a year and monitored during pregnancy. Had clexane every day from start of 2nd trimester.

All best wishes for your recovery!

...stupid iPhone!...

*Taking DD there!

They wheeled me off to my own room as I was getting a bit upset. Sad then I've just had a nice hot bath with baby bubbles and got in my pyjamas ready for a nice nights sleep!

Unfortunately I'm now directly next to the labour ward, and I remember hearing the screams of pain when I was here last time (and contributing my own!!)

Night all, and thanks again! Flowers
